Is this the grandad to the Morris minor traveller?

This is with someone near me who has bought a house to do up. The garage was full of books and bits so as they came out for disposal this was found underneath

Called a 'Lea Francis 14 Estate' (14hp) - there were only 916 made.

Only 20 estate cars and three vans are currently in Club members' hands, as so many have succumbed to wood rot.

Crikey - not seen one of those for a very long time! Woodies can be very popular amongst a select bunch of timber-lovers. The Moggy Traveller has many grandparents, and really was out of date by the time it arrived in the Fifties.

Well identified! Some semi-related trivia:From some Urban Exploration research I did, Hellingly Asylum had one of them for staff transport. I have photo somewhere of it outside the main entrance.Only motors on the site now are burnt out SD1 and Marina van. Both of these belonged to the place too!

When I wrote my first post, I had eaten WAY too much for my tea (my missus may as well just stick all my dinner in a trough in the back and be done with it) and was on the brink of severe vomiting, and just looking at it wasn't helping. I can understand it's pretty cool and I'd drive it at the drop of a hat, but it's insanely ugly. I reckon it deserves restoring I think. :)

What a shame - wonder what happened to them?? I'm sure they'll come up with a spot of T-Cut!

What a gorgeous woodie!  I hope it's been/being recommissioned as-is, you can have too many shiny over-restored cars.  They're designed to be used!

Absolutely wonderful, and as Mr R says it should never lose that patina, but just be made roadworthy and enjoyed.

BTW, it is only two years older than the first Minor Traveller, so perhaps its slightly older cousin rather than its grandad :) Registration is Sheffield 1950 (I once had a share in a sit up and beg Anglia restoration project NWA 222, only a few numbers different) which probably didn't survive to become a barn find or even donate its registration to a Mercedes ;).

Blimey a blast from the past on my old user name. This is not showing on d.v.l.a's site at the moment and was sold on ebay about 8 months after it was pictured by me. I can only assume its under restoration or is sitting as found in a museum.

Someone ought to go and liberate the engine and box from that burned out Marina van, it will make a decent few groat on the bay defo

Bloke next door had a saloon Lea F. in his garage for 25 years, turfed it out last year....Never even knew it was there and the garage is about 8 inches from my house!    Needless to say it was wolfed up by some local geezer before I even got home from work.   There is a woodie one round these parts as well, has been on the road locally for as long as I can remember.
