I think that was taken outside the old distribition centre in Ross on Wye. It's now Unilin insulation but was empty for years.

I do like a bit of old Tatra off-road madness, but what about the new ones? Changed to a Scania cab, and they're clearly intent on building things that look like a mechanical caterpillar...

Nice, but that’s not a Scania cab. Think it’s the same as the current DAF XF?

Looks more XD or XG

The cabs for them are made in Westerloo, in NL.

Yes, you're both correct. Don't know how I came to that conclusion!

I had a slightly surreal experience last year and at the start of this year when I was called in to do an archaeological monitoring during the demolition of the Somerfields where I had my first ever proper job in the mid-90s. I knew the place inside out, having worked there for about three years. When I went in to look around thieves had been in to nick all the wiring and copper and had torn down all the fascias and interior fittings revealing a big Gateway logo along the one side of the store that had been hidden for 35 years.

They were bad for that - just taking the old logos off, or plastering the new ones over them. The shops, I'd seen the bits they didn't bother much with, because the public wouldn't see it, and the vehicles weren't much better. You could look along the sides in certain lights, and see the generations of logos poorly hidden.

Mind you, it carried on into the Co-op era; they were in such freefall understanding how the hell we'd made it work, they were paying extra for ex Dunfermline and East Kilbride staff to travel to Newhouse, and you'd get a Co-op driver complaining about something not working on a green trailer, and you'd go "Yeah, it's been like that for years, mate..." and show them the work around! I ended up deciding enough was enough after a 'debate' with a Co-op transport clerk about why a certain configuration wouldn't go into the Piazza in Paisley, without needing towed back out, and probably major structural repairs engaged in...

It's a pity Photobucket fucked everything up, because I'm pretty sure I had pictures of signage from the underground in the Piazza, that dated back to the seventies. Fine Fare, Malcolm Campbell's and so on - the history of it was interesting, even if it was clear that the bays were never designed for anything bigger than a puddle jumper!
