Breakdown cover

I am driving from Hereford to Edinburgh and back tomorrow. I am picking up a sofa bed from my parents, so taking the voyager- cue modern cars are shite!!😀

 

Anyway, i had a quick search through the forum, but cannot find the name of the breakdown company that you all use. The one that you pay to get recovered, then the company send you a cheque.

 

Can somebody furnish me with the name please.

Has anyone actually used auto aid since it was bought out earlier on in the year? We've used it once before and they were great, just hoping it will be ok if needed again?

I haven't had to pay and claim for AGES though

I had to use them at the weekend for the Allegro recovery. They said they didn't do the pay and claim thing anymore (although their website says otherwise) and they recovered me like a traditional breakdown service. 

 

Very happy with the service, incidentally.

Try your bank. They usually do comp AA or whatever for a tenner or less.

Apologies for dragging this back up. Is there any one else apart from the big names anyone has experience of?

 

I was going to join Autoaid but had a read and they don't cover 125cc bikes (they have a limit of over 150).

Gem Recovery also works on a similar principle. On the rare occasions I've had to use them over the last few years, I've always been happy. Membership comes with a free giffer-tastic quarterly magazine packed with dull road safety features...

Cheers for that, they appear to cover anything on two wheels as well as four so looks like a good option.

Arse just checked autoaid who we already have a policy with and my van isn't covered as the gvw is too high, now I need to sort something else.

We have found First Call to be very good fit the van, also include large trailers/caravans too.

 

I'd forgotten about the GEM magazine, the one thing that autoaid can't match.

I also use GEM and they have been great getting the XM started every time the battery is flat (each time I try to start it!) and also bringing the Mk 1 Clio with snapped timing belt back from Norwich to Bexhill on Sea!

I used insurance choice which was £40 a year for roadside and relay until my car was over 16 years. Called out twice. Local firm arrived within half hour.

Now I have rescue my car.com with roadside and relay for £30 something but have not had to use.

With rescuemycar.com 24 hours need to have elapsed from joining to calling out.

We had same. It is usually billy basic and when you try to upgrade it is £££. Same with travel insurance etc

Any recomendations for breakdown cover on a big van over 30 years old, First call looked good but then I realised they only cover you to be recovered to home or the nearest garage whichever is closer, which isn't the most useful thing,
