Period car sales listings

Not sure if there's a thread on here already? I'm sure I've seen some old car adverts on here somewhere, but can't find them.

This one's from 1994 and local to me. I wonder how much the E Type was? In the meantime, it appears Alpines are worth pretty much the same 22 years later.

There were some in Warren T claims "Liverturds" thread, but a separate thread for just this sort of thing would interest many I think.

Perhaps it says in the editorial?

Alas, there's no trace of it.

4 year old Dacia pickup seems a barg for only* £750+ TAT.

VW taro has to be a rare thing then, probably very near extinct now.

A few future classics here, interesting to consider how their relative vales compare nowadays.

Those Rovers are really expensive. 22 grand now would would get you a pretty decent brand new car.

Did they not always recon the UK got shafted on new car pricing right up until the end of the 90's, early 2000's when some euro rule sorted it out.

The reg might be - the Toyota's worth a half-sucked Softmint!  ;)

Great thread, let me take you right back though to a real Golden Age, ie 1961. I have dug out a copy of Autocar from that year, which I must have picked up some time ago for the obscure reason that it had a full descripion and road test of the than new Vauxhall Victor FB, possibly the last if not only decent car that they made ;)

I'll set the scene, no scans I'm afraid as the scanner is packed away, but it doesn't talk to the laptop in any case. According to the Daily Torygraph the average wage was under £1,000 a year, but on the other hand the average house cost a mere £2,700 :o To set a marker for car prices, a new Ford Popular was the cheapest car on the market at £509, a Consul was £823 and a Zodiac just topped the grand mark at £1,012. Of course you could go mad and buy an Aston DB4 at £4,085 but it might have been a shrewder move to  have splashed out £5,470 for the Zagato version, what are they worth now?

The choicest secondhand cars seem to have been available from the aptly named Chequered Flag (Competion Cars) in Edgware. Top of the tree was a Ferrari 250GT with Borani wire wheels for £3,250, followed closely by a Mercedes 300SLR for £2,650 (I think that I would have swopped the average house for that one :)) Lower down the food chain a virtually new Alfa Giulietta Spider would have set you back £1,735 or a 1956 Sprint version would have been more affordable at £965. In between those in price you could have had a 1958 AC Aceca Bristol for £1,095.

If you fancied something a bit more fashionable, then a year old Mini, then still known as the Austin Seven , could have been yours for £445, complete with heater and washers, but this was the De Luxe model, the basic version must have been pretty grim :( Did Princess Anne also have one  of these or was it just Peter Sellers?

My Ma had one of those.  Changing the heater from windscreen to car was done by reaching down and taking hold of the big spring-loaded metal flap on the front of the heater.

Cough - Hi Lux

There is at least one of these still around. I occasionally see a G reg one at our local 'country store'. Looks a bit scruffy and tired. Owned by an old boy stocking up on bags of animal feed...

They way I divide time in my head is no 1 in front of the telephone number, olden times a 1 in front of the number modern times.
