Mystery future blind sort of purchase,

She was tall, was that the reason for sale?

Karen was the serving wench, apparently* she does a mean onion tower.

I've never minded the BINI, they're not a bad steer & look OK if you can see past the fake 'proper Mini' styling.

11, 13 and 23 please :-)

It's a 2004 on a 53 plate,

Front discs shot,

Front wheel bearing as ruff as banshee on speed,

Front wishbone bushes all wibbly wobbly,

Spark plug leads eaten,

The radiator is sobbing like a dummy less baby,

Radio doesn't work as no Ariel adapter,

Its actually in pretty good order so service parts ordered let the tinkering commence.

That is a result indeed. They're really quite good when sorted, beside all the many things that like to break on them.

Ditch the "mate" though...

Yeah you've done alright out of that!

Ones aren't bad - if you do decide to remap to Cooper spec it'll go from 90ish to 115bhp, maybe more. They're a lot of fun so it's worth considering if you're gonna keep it and drive it. Choice* modifications to the exterior are typical as everything is easy to change - especially those faux-Cooper S indicator trims, they seem to get done a lot, as do mirror caps. There's a lot around in various conditions, you'll get everything from well specced giffer minters in BRG to silver 90bhp Ones with badly done bodykits and different coloured bonnet scoops. Wheels are a common mod especially on the One as they came with steels as standard and the trims are gash. They're 4x100 though so there's a world of choice out there if you don't like what's on. Ride quality wise 16"s are good, no real difference between them and 15s to me. Weirdly a Cooper S on 17"s was the best riding one I've been in but you could feel that it was trying really hard to be civilised when not in sport mode.

mini2.com is where to go for tech knowledge on them.

My neighbour over the road has just sold her Mini Cooper coupe which she has had since it was a 3000 mile old demo and when she bought it she changed the wheels straight over from 17 inch to 18 inch so the original wheels and tyres are still as new if you need a set.

I think she was looking at around £175 for them and the tyres are are Michelin so if you need a set I can ask if she still has them.

Santa's came early, first I had to fuel up so here's a mans bacon sarnie my favourite.

first job after scran the rad as it looks a doddle since no air con,

you can see its weeping down both bottom corners so after fighting with spring hose clips it was drained removed,

post-3747-0-86981600-1474315455_thumb.jpg

20 mins later and a quick bleed shinny bits.

post-3747-0-26849400-1474315406_thumb.jpg

and first empty box.

post-3747-0-77689500-1474315134_thumb.jpg

I then moved onto the general service so removed the sump plug and left it to drain,

post-3747-0-91062000-1474316229_thumb.jpg

as the leads had been half eaten,

post-3747-0-29912500-1474316528_thumb.jpg

I ordered a new set for peace of mind, I removed the plugs and these are fancy looking things, BMW too so is it possible they could be the originals,

post-3747-0-04971500-1474316329_thumb.jpgpost-3747-0-26177800-1474316428_thumb.jpg

then I moved onto the filters and this could also be the original as it too was a genuine item.

After changing the oil filter and replacing sump plug I filled her up and it took nearly the whole five litre tub,

first wave and the rubbish pile is growing.

Next job was the brakes as the discs really are past it,

post-3747-0-80245900-1474317155_thumb.jpg

I jacked her up and removed the wheel and found a chunky torx bolt holding the disc which came out with ease, so now a simple case of pushing the pistons back and unbolting the calliper then removing the calliper mount.

more shiny bits,

post-3747-0-08434100-1474317274_thumb.jpg

I cleaned up the hub ready for the new disc, then refitted it all back together

post-3747-0-48477800-1474317499_thumb.jpgpost-3747-0-35808900-1474317669_thumb.jpg

wheel back on then moved onto the other side.

After my success I was sailing right up to this happened, the darn thing just wouldn't budge at all then after much hitting with hammers and swearing it was chewed beyond recognition,

post-3747-0-58817400-1474317867_thumb.jpg

it was then I realised what a fool I was being as this was the side with the knackered wheel bearing so I undid the hub bolt from behind and bingo one disc complete with hub removed,

post-3747-0-41392900-1474318008_thumb.jpgpost-3747-0-85273800-1474318088_thumb.jpg

it was then just a simple job of bolting the new hub on and refitting the new brakes,

post-3747-0-81974200-1474318270_thumb.jpg

the rubbish pile is now even bigger.

post-3747-0-15873400-1474318352_thumb.jpg

after a quick test drive I took it round to work to give it a wash

Enjoying reading about your improvements with this car. Very satisfying and I don't need to get my hands dirty! Do you need a laptop to do posts like that with photo then text then photo etc? I can't seem to do it using my phone anyway. Keep the updates coming please!

My daughter has had her eyes on it since she woke to see it sitting in the garden so now it will be hers and the fiesta will be getting moved on,

to insure her on it as a learner in her own name with misses added fc £390 not bad for her first insurance but I dare say that will double/treble when she passes her test.

costings

three fifths of £76.10 around £45.66 although I did have the mixed grill which was the dearest but that's just nit picking.

radiator £36.45

two front bushes £19.90

pair of wipers £8.50

Ariel adaptor £2.99

plug leads £19.49

wheel bearing/hub £29.90

service kit £34.49

brake discs £22,99

brake pads £15.00

total = £235.37

still to add some coolant but I already have that.

Not to bad cost wise for parts. That all in one hub wheel bearing looks like it keeps things simple.

I could have used radweld and not changed the leads to keep costs down but even if I still have to spend more on it I simply cant loose.

I've noticed quite a few vehicles are using complete hubs now as I've only just done one on my Navarra
