Kiltox Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Anyone heard of this lot? "Full Respray from £399" Guess it won't be a fantastic job but for something like my van or the famous Panda that probably wouldn't matter too much https://m.facebook.com/VehicleResprayglasgow/?locale2=en_GB

Kiltox Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 I agree. I'd love to actually hear from someone who has seen their work in the flesh
fordperv Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 not heard of them myself, if all you want from a respray is being all one colour and is presentable you probably can't go wrong
Tamworthbay Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 not heard of them myself, if all you want from a respray is being all one colour and is presentable you probably can't go wrong hmmm, depends on your definition of term presentable. I have seen some truly shocking reprays in my time, and some of them weren't even done by me. fordperv, oldcars and chodweaver 3
Jifflemon Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Bodywork is funny thing. People don't seem to bat an eyelid at paying out big money for an engine rebuild, but scream blue murder when faced with paint costs.Maybe it's because it's an area I long since accepted I'd never be able to do that I don't wince at the costs?
Felly Magic Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 For that money it sounds like some clown using a garden fence sprayer
BavarianRetro Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 They've done two for me. The first one and a second chance. They won't be getting a third. I wasn't expecting much given the price, and both needed to be all one colour, but........
For Fiats Sake Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 It's not going to be good for that price is it? Somethings got to suffer, whether that's the prep work (or lack of) materials used etc. If you only want a job that's good from 6foot away why not have a go with a roller, two of the panda lads have done it and it gives a decent finish. Still a lot of the finish lies in the prep and how many coats you want to/are prepared to do. I've done door bottoms with a rattle can and it's come up good enough to fool the casual observer. Like most things you get back what you put in whether it's time or money imo. EDIT: It just occurred to me, is a Glasgow Respray like a Glasgow Kiss? In which case please disregard previous drivel. Yes! £399, is a brilliant price for that kind of service, wood cost much moar in that there London. Note to others, London Dungeons is NOT an S&M club and entry will be refused if wearing rubber.

fordperv Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 hmmm, depends on your definition of term presentable. I have seen some truly shocking reprays in my time, and some of them weren't even done by me.I agree there i have witnessed some abysmal jobs in my time, what I should have said a job that looks half decent from a metre or so away, years back a dodgy old garage used to have a sign out front saying resprays from £50, I was talking to the mechanic and I jokingly asked what kind of a job you would get for that, he told me it would look good through a welding mask and stevie wonder would be able to read it, the people who used to go for those jobs were the ones who were up to no good had hit something or someone and wanted to cover it up sharpish Tamworthbay 1
BavarianRetro Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Got any photos or more information? PM if you'd rather not post stuff in publicNo photos. Poor preparation. Poor dust prevention. Days of cutting and polishing required to get any sort of smooth finish. Bear in mind, the material cost for a decent respray of a normal sized car will be in the region of £400. If your car is tatty with different coloured panels, you'll probably not get it painted for any less. If you want it all one colour and you're prepared to do the flatting and polishing once you get it back, it's not a bad deal.
Kiltox Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Hmm. Not looking for concours finishes and it's for my own vehicles not ones I'd be looking to sell on
richardmorris Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Current quote for my merc from the local specialist was £200 a front wing, £150 for each of the doors and £300 each for the bonnet and bumper. I'm now having a think about it, which is ok as they're now booked until December. Unfortunately in the meantime sainsburys has upped my credit card limit by £500 :-/
BavarianRetro Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Go and speak to them then. Guy's name is Fraser. If you're aware of what you're getting and prepared to put some effort in yourself, they'll vertainly fling some paint on your car for you. I've a decent guy who'll do a decent job for about £1000. Better value in my opinion.
Ben_O Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I would imagine the starting price will be a scotch up, mask up and a quick blow over. Like has been said, the paint and materials would barely be covered by the starting price but they do seems to paint a lot of cars black or white. Perhaps they have a load of cheap paint knocking around. I personally wouldn't bother, at least a scruffy looking car is an honest one. Uncle Jimmy, Tamworthbay and oldcars 3
BavarianRetro Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Their preferred option is to paint it in some plastic stuff that peels off. Basically a spray on wrap. It allows cheap colour changes etc.
Ben_O Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Their preferred option is to paint it in some plastic stuff that peels off. Basically a spray on wrap. It allows cheap colour changes etc.Plastidip?
Tamworthbay Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 That never looks good close up and only looks ok at a distance for a short time. Ok for alloys if you are looking for a quick job but wouldn't do it on a full car. Even then £400 is cheap, couple of places I know who do it charge at least £800.
Split_Pin Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I bet the finish will feel like Braille to the touch.
Ben_O Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I can do a respray from around £1000 but to get it done for that price, the body would have to need only very minor repairs. It is always the prep and repairs that push the price up and up and i would never respray a damaged vehicle. Pointless imo
Pillock Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 A guy at work had a Golf VR6 done as a cheap blow-over, it was a nice looking car before (that metallic plum they come in) and just had a few lacquer peel issues. Think he paid about £500 and we spent so long taking the piss over his nice purple windscreen rubbers, door seals, exhaust etc that he eventually traded it in for a Ford Focus. I honestly can't see you getting a good finish for £400. If it's that PlastiDip stuff, then it seems more suited to show cars.... peels off, has some element of stone chip resistance but you'll never match the colour so any repairs = full respray. And since they're not spraying original colour, your door shuts and underbonnet etc will stick out. Naaah.
PiperCub Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 As prep is everything (the putting-on-of-the-paint is the easy bit so I was told), prep is man-draulic labour, labour is time, time is money. So the words cheap and respray don't work when used together. I suspect they could possibly do it for £400 on a small-ish car provided you'd done most/all of the prep yourself and had done any stripping of bits (lights, mirrors etc) necessary so all it would need is a final flat, wipe off and spray. Having said that, I wouldn't do it, if a car is good enough to warrant painting, I'd want it done properly, not some crap orange-peel, micro-blistered, varying shade effort that everyone will laugh at. If the car doesn't deserve a decent paint job then either do it yourself or leave it alone!
oldcars Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I would avoid. Its going to be rubbish for that price with next to no prep work done.
sierraman Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 A good respray starts around the £2000 mark. If someone's prepared to do it for 1/4 of that, it WILL look shit. oldcars 1
