Vectra XP

Going to view an 07 plate 1.9 CDTi estate with XP pack - car has 148 k on the clock, 19" wheels sat nav and phone. FSH and clutch/ flywheel done within last 20k.

Anybody know book price for private sale? Car is £1800 ono which I think is slightly above what it should be.

Honestly no idea of book, but with those miles I reckon you want to be seeing that about £300 cheaper. That said a .quick eBay search seems to throw a few up around that mark give or take

Is it a garage? The clutch/flywheel being done are a very big deal to be fair. Oh aye, if it has those snowflake wheels as utterly sexy as they look, they do seem prone to cracking and the ride will be quite harsh with them. Should do the mileage ok, mine had done 170,000 and ran like a Swiss watch.

Private sale. Not willing to go above book as they are 10 a penny and the average mileage should be 100k so it is well above average.

I'd add make sure the shocks on the rear are not knackered if it has the air suspension. And those electric tailgate were proper shit. Magnesium frame I'm led to believe, all I remember is "Close - Bing Bing warning noise - Open" repeat until shut. Are alternators still a fortune/service item on them?

Top tip: I bought a genuine GM soundproof foam sandwich meant for a Zafira/Saab/Caddilac for mine for about £40/50 and it massively silenced the idle noise. I also had a 2kw fan heater on a 5am timer in the drivers footwell as it took 6/7 miles to demist. Dunno if that was just mine however.

I recently had a 200,000 miler on a 58 plate that ran perfectly other than smoking its tits off due to EGR issues. That was the 1.9 SRi 150 model though.

Check what the tyres cost on 19s. Also as with anything like that if it's spent time on the rank...

If you mean trade book then less than a grand

Expecting to buy private cars for that is ambitious mind

Does it have to be an Estate? There are some decent hatches out there at cheaper prices.

The estate definitely commands a premium (they're almost sought after...... almost)

DMF change is a big deal if it's backed up with receipts etc - that's £1200 at a garage

An ex work colleague just scrapped a 57 cdti with 130k because clutch and flywheel had gone.

He got £70.

Viewed car. Not bad but not worth £1800.

Damage to n/s rear arch, all alloys needed a refurb, no gas in the air con, possible broken rear spring - that corner of the car was lower than the other side. A few other minor faults - missing ashtray, petrol filler flap had to be released manually and a fault showing on the alarm.

Seller, who was a nice chap, did'nt want to move much on price - I did'nt make an offer as I knew we would never meet as he had other people waiting to see it. I just told him what the parkers price was for a car with 100k on the clock -£1595.

Apparently he had various bellends wanting him to break it because it was an XP - it's a vectra for fucks sake, not a 70's ford.

Do you know what? After getting into our focus to come home I realised what a good car it is - smooth, pokey, no bangs or rattles. With the aircon and rear window sorted I will sort the sill out when I get back from Devon.

What's an XP? It's a fucking printer isn't it?

£1800 is iffy money for anything. If it's good it's good but it's at the sort of money that you'll feel inclined to throw money at it. I'd look again at about a grand. Sometimes private cars make awful buys as people get clouded with 'what it's worth' as opposed to a trader who knows the value of it and isn't clouding his judgement with the fact he's spent £1500 in the last 12 months.

I'd not quite expect a 10 year old modern dizzler to have done 100k, or rather - I'd actually prefer it if it'd averaged 15k per year instead of 10k as they do not take lower mileages/shorter journeys that well.

Saying that, SnrYoof's 3.0CDTi-engined Signum is doing barely doing more than five miles per journey at the moment and apart from having the propensity to do a James Bond style smoke-screen if you boot it, still seems to be ticking along.

I would suggest that a £1270 57 CDTi with 130K and a guaranteed clutch and flywheel makes good sense. Unless there was other faults.

I would have made an offer. £800 minus £50 for every fault = £450 Cash and a working PS1
