Audi Coupe - auto to manual conversion. Any tips?

Alrighty then, folks, I've been offered a not-particularly-cheap 1985 Audi Coupe GT 5 pot with an Auto box, with a manual gearbox and clutch included to convert it. I'm hoping someone here knows there Audishizzle.

I'm thinking at a minimum i'd also have to find:

-driveshafts

-pedal box

-gear lever

-flywheel

Probably also a new centre console trim too.

Anyone got any idea what i've not thought of? Are these cable actuated clutches like the 4 pots or are we talking about finding all the clutch hydraulic gubbins 'n'all?

Oh and this is in the UAE and it's likely the only one in the country, and i'll have to get all the bits from Germany. Which I can't imagine being a ballache or anything.

Apparently it all works as it is, but an badermatic Coupe GT?

I'd run it as is.

Lovely engine and box combo.

Horrible job with sand sticking to your oily bits.

Auto would best suit the coupe I reckon, they are a bit front heavy to be pointy-squirty after all.

So no help from me sorry but all my Audi ownership has been auto.

Wouldn't be too much of an issue. My friend has an a/c'd, fully equipped unit where he keeps his old nail, that I can use. I say 'old nail', it's a Testarossa.

Might not be a bad call, I forget how nose heavy the 5 pots can be. Like I say, mine was the Golf engined one.

Another vote for staying auto. Unless it looks like a group B rally car......

Even then..

I like autos

No help I know, I'll just shuffle off back to the garden for more beer and pastis...

Back in 2011 I had this lovely GT 5 pot 2 Ltr Auto and it was utterly spoilt by the 3 speed auto gearbox. It was sluggish and disappointing but the idea of changing it to a manual never occurred to me because of the amount of work, if you want a manual buy a manual.

Often the autos don't have the recess for the thrust bearing cup machined into the rear flange of the crankshaft.

If this is the case, the crankshaft needs to come out and the recess machined into it.

Nice, but those stickers though.

Won't be so easy to just buy a manual, as this one's the only one in the country...

My friend Dave had an auto GT, 5-pot and carb.  He bought a similarly-specced manual as a stripper, but was amazed how much stuff he couldn't use.  I drove his auto once or twice, and drove the stripper home from Liverpool to Southport.  No contest, auto every time.  But then I would say that, wouldn't I?

Correct apart from it being the spigot bearing

No help here...but i did go for a lot of 5 pots the D'land in the 80/90s and the manuals were a lot nicer to drive long distance automotorway with an occasional caravan sellotaped to the back. The 100 saloon with 5 pot diesel manual was the best IMHO.  5 pot with auto was brill in town/ Berlin West but the wall eventually fell so high speed long distance took over.  If you get one which looks good and works then don't bugger about with it.

Well, one of those fucking bearings cars with proper gearboxes don't have.

Do you still live in S'port ?  I'm just half way between the two - I can see the Tesco Clock - next to Formby bypass,  from my Loft window)

Not any more, I now live two hours away in Barrow.  I did used to work at that very Tesco though!
