Honda CD175, bull's stable 'find'

This isn't a 'find' at all because I put it there 19 years ago. It was plonked in Roger's manger and is still there, but happily for the prospective buyer the bovine love machine had already moved out so the bike is not covered in his slobber.

I got the bike years ago along with several other non running CB and CD 175's; I made some of them work and subsequently sold them and this is what remains. The engine was dismantled and rebuilt proply. Bores, pistons and rings were excellent, it got a new timing chain whether it needeth it or not. The engine was put back in the frame but never started as it lacked exhausts. I filled it with new oil and have turned it over from time to time so all should be well.
Clearly some parts are missing, I'll dig out everything I have and post it later- obviously it will be included.
If you have never had the pleasure of riding one of these you've missed out. They are an economy ride to work version of the excellent CB175. Unlike that bike the handling and brakes are marginal and it has 6v electrics, a single carb and a 4 speed gearbox; more later. It's going on ebay now so it might not be for sale for much longer.

Is that a  "I've kept this for 19 years and sold it in 4 minutes"  Hodna CD175?

South Linc's and here's the other bits.

Not everything to complete the bike, the exhausts are missing for instance. However there's a fine new single saddle for the proud owner to plant their ringpiece on. More pics to follow - I'm being called to the trough.

All the crap in the photos comes with the bike along with the modern style logbook.
I can't say whether the engine and frame numbers match up, so best assume they don't.

The rear chain and front sprockets were newly replaced and the back one has no wear. The bike was at the point of being able to run but please don't ask whether it has its original giggling pin as I just can't be arsed. I've just sold 2 O series engines on eBay (one hardly used) and wore out a pair of shoes going back and forward to the shed to get engine numbers, measure stroke(!) and a hundred other little questions. The lot made 57 quid but that was too strong for the asker...
Lastly a couple of comments on CD175s- I am perverse enough to prefer them over their more glamorous cousins. They pogo along on their under damped suspension, feel like they are hinged in the middle on corners at the same time emitting a shower of sparks from the grounding silencers. The revvy engines are a delight to thrash the bollocks off and with only one carb and bomb-proof electrics they would withstand this treatment for a long time without attention. Lots better than a 125 single. If I can find Mr Haynes's manual it will be included.

The thing I remember about CD175s was how quiet they were.

I can only swap for pre-60's vehicular items in any state and with cash rolled up and stuffed in the CD's handlebars if necessary.

I am looking for one of these but it ought to be ready to ride as otherwise it will still look like this in 19 more years....

The CD was an excellent machine. I wish I had cash to purchase said vehicle but alas only have VAG products to swap.

My first machine VPH617M.

Lovely, but not for me right now.

Gave a bump on me.

Almost exactly what I don't need in my life right now.

On that note, how do I get it to London?

I've asked my wife but you know how it is, she prefers to get them in herself.

Not when at 16 years old you hacksawed the silencers in half. Noisy bugger then. We had two as field bikes and never managed to blow one up, despite horrible abuse. I think both are now parked up at the bottom of a lake at the gravel pit.

Had one about 10 years ago, brilliant machine, bendy frame, nightmarish twin coil that only fired on one cylinder half the time, flat out at 25 mph then the other one would kick in...

They seem to have aquired a scene tax that they dont deserve, they were grey porridge ride to work bikes and nothing more, but very good at it mind.

I'd forgotten all about the running on one cylinder thing with these engines, but then again it was 36 years ago when I used one as a daily ride. On the twin carb models it is possible to replace the slides in the wrong carbs- they're handed and fit nicely the wrong way round. Theres no better way to learn which side the cutaway should be than trying to push start a bike in this condition.

As a poor apprentice, that was why mine got sold,I couldn't justify the price if a coil for what was then a £250 bike.was quite nerve wracking really as you would have the throttle pinned in 2nd running on one cyl, then the other cyl would come to life and you would go flying down the road.there was no warning of when it would do it either!
