Bren Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Just back from a weekend camping in north wales - apart from dealing with strong winds and drugged up bellends in the next tent who were fucked off the next day the only other issues was wife's focii. With all the gear and additional sprog it is too small. The hunt for a vectra C estate has begun. Why a vectra? It's not french and does'nt rust or shit itself like an equivalent ford. They are relatively easy to fix and having owned one before they do the job with minimal fuss. The dilemma is what to do with the focus? A two owner car with 127k, 4 new toyo proxes and mot until end of dec. The car is very tidy but one sill will need attention to get another 12 months, air con could do with a regas as well. By the way car is a TDCi ghia estate in pepper red. Some history, spare key and all books are present. The issue is I am unwilling to spend £150 - 200 on it to get £200 in a private sale. That means a part ex and usually the best cars are private. Thoughts?
Pillock Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Sell it now, be honest about the sill - that's still a good four months motoring, and from next week until the arse end of July 2017 will be overcast with a hint of Ice Age so who cares about the air con? Sell it as is. egg 1
taxi paul Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Someone will be made up with that. Should sell easily. Good luck. Or keep it and buy a trailer for camping. That way you can take even more essential stuff. Mine for camping is 8ft x4ft. eddyramrod 1
purplebargeken Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Is that all it needs? Pfft. If you are otherwise happy with it then do as suggested and get a trailer for the extra junk, I mean stuff. A 'new' car means potentially new issues and more hassle. Tons of suitable trailers out there. eddyramrod 1
sporty-shite Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Or cheaper still, get a roof box. I certainly wouldn't chop a Focus in for a Vectra. #AVAS Alusilber 1
BorniteIdentity Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Your MIL's Granada + suitably 80s Caravan seems like the perfect solution to both your holiday and conveyance concerns. purplebargeken and danthecapriman 2
surprisingskoda Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Tdci focus for 200? Sell in 3 minutes. Absolutely definitely don't ditch that for a vectra
Split_Pin Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Four months honest motoring there then fix or scrap. As said, be upfront about the sill and you should be grand.
UltraWomble Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 +1 on the trailer. I have a C8, 7 seater. Three kids and I still end up taking the trailer when going on long trips camping or staying in a static somewhere. £100 or less on a towbar, fit it yourself, and £100 or less on a second hand Erde camping trailer.
John F Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Good choice, the Vectra C estate is enormously underestimated. You should be able to punt the Focus on for a few hundred, they're fairly popular among the general population.
Bren Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 The focus is a cracking car. The problems is I work shifts and have two young children - finding time to stay on top of things is becoming more difficult. Take for instance the sill - I could patch it but it would be a bodge and it is not how I do things - I make a repair section and let it in, which takes time. Even on an old snotter. I will see how much similar focii are going for.
