Yo Skizz, if you can read French (or just want to look at the pictures) I have a Rancho Revue Technique here that I dont have a huge amount of use for.

It goes into decent detail like an old style Haynes manual.

Note - its old and tatty and the binding is fucked so the pages are all loose.

Its mechanicals only, no bodywork.

PM me your address and I will post it.

You are a scholar and a gentleman, sir. PM coming shortly

To cheer myself up / punish myself for not having a working old car to take me to Chodmongdiddly today, I started taking the Rancho apart.

I took the scuttle panel off to see what horrors lay beneath where water had run through the spotlight mounts, and to see what the bulkhead looked like as that can be a killer.

And the answer is...

post-4091-0-48849500-1473011252_thumb.jpeg

It's actually really solid! With a bit of a clean, most of what I thought was bubbling turned out to be seam sealer. The bulkhead is clean and the slam panel is in much better condition than the spare that came with it.

The underside of the scuttle itself is flaky in places, as are the two spare ones, but it's not structural so rust converter should sort it out.

Next step will be be to take the bumper and front wings off and have a look at the inside of the A-post.

Braddon81 came over yesterday to give the Rancho a good poke (fnarr), and reckons it's all pretty doable. He's also recommended some people locally who can help with various things I need help with, which I'm very happy about indeed.

Very exciting!

The guy who does our recovery at work owns a few unusual cars including a poo brown Rancho.

He also owns an NSU Ro 80 and various old Renaults.

That guy knows his stuff

Well, it all happens while I've been away.

I am the guy with the Rancho and the NSU's.

Mine is in very good condition and is driven regularly. I prefer brick red rather than poo brown.

So that's three on Autoshite.

If you need any bits let me know as one of my contacts in France has a few of these and has broken one recently.

Does that apply to me too?

There's a small piece of trim I need.

There is considerable trouser excitement potential in that image.

Why does the Ro80 have septic spec headlights?

The early ones came with those headlights. The twin halogens came in September '69.

Both wonderful cars, but the Ro80 is the one that I'd take home with me, given the choice :)

That is very much brick red.

Agreed.

I have never seen it myself.

A work mate told me it was poo brown

We visit the Isle of White a lot and think I would have wet myself if I spotted either of them!

I think I have seen the isle of Wight one, but only in the distance! Will keep looking next time I am over there in a few weeks.

You have a working Rancho AND an NSU Ro80?

I am consumed with petulant jealousy. GET OUTTA MY THREAD.

I apologise profusely for hijacking your thread.

I can make it up to you by mentioning that I have various Rancho bits in my loft.

If you need anything to help get yours back on the road, just let me know.

That's very decent of you indeed, thank you!

Any amount of thread hijacking is in fact very welcome, of course, especially given my own lack of progress in the last month. The day anyone complains about Talbot or NSU content on here, other than in jest, is a truly sad day.

I'm still madly jealous though.

Hey Mr. Skizz,

Out of the blue I've been offered a copy of the Talbot workshop manual. As I've already got one, I thought of you.

Interested?

Drop me a PM

That's a big yes please! Ta v much, will pm you shortly.

I actually had an afternoon off work a week ago Sunday and went to start dismantling the front to see what the a pillars look like. Progress = zero: I failed to undo any of the bolts holding the front bumper on. Are they even bolts?
