1949 Triumph Roadster - DO NOT PAINT AWARD

Another pick-of-the-show thread from me after having recently attend the Bourne Classic Car and Bike Festival this weekend just gone.  I'll do a full show report thread later to show you some of the other stuff I saw like the Kia Pride, which isn't something I expected to see on the showground.  As with the Lea Francis I brought you last week, this week I'll let the pictures of this fabulous 1949 Triumph Roadster do the talking.

I was fortunate enough to chat briefly to the owner and express my delight at seeing this particular vehicle, especially that it was wearing its years with pride.  I just hope he didn't think I was an intolerable hipster sort and recognised that he really genuinely should not paint this fantastic car.

Now that's the sort of Triumph Bergerac should have driven. Loving the patina on it there

Vulgalour you should hate it, because you are a fussy sod who likes his cars perfect. Me, love it because it's kept like I live the rest of my life.

So say Bergerac's roadster was largely pushed between scenes and Nettles hated the car!

I've read the Morse Jaaag was pretty shagged too.

The seats look like they're made from Soviet era spacesuits.

With the TR head it should drive so much better, the standard cars (ha!) We're very slow.

Wasn't Morse's Jag a tarted up Daimler?   Anyhow, more importantly, that Triumph is just delightful.

STUNO:  I am a man of varied tastes and this Triumph hits as many buttons for me as a concourse Delahaye or a smart 90s Vauxhall.  Mechanically sorted, solid and wearing the wear and tear of 67 years honestly.  You can't create this sort of thing, it has to develop over a long, long time and I have a lot of respect for that.

That's a fabulous thing and I dearly hope the owner is never moved to restore it. Like an old house it wears each repair with pride.

They're so bloody handsome too.

That's taken 67 years?  AMATEUR!  My Blingo looks like that at 12!  :P

But seriously - that Triumph is a thing of wonder and I wish we saw more honest old motors telling their story as eloquently.  I love those 'nave plates'...

I can remember seeing this last year at the BL day in Peterborough.
