I never realised that BX interiors were so bonkers - I like that very much :)

It's a Mk1 BX! - a REAL Citroen.. (for the car history nerdz - the last Citroen Dashboard designed by Michel Harmand)If it wasn't for the interior I could probably pass on the BX..

Some spotz today:

- well I'm sure there will be many bad things said about this but it made my day because it's obviously owned by someone who doesn't take it too seriously - was cool, much liked.

F.O.R.D Number two. This truly is a thing of proper shite beauty! I enjoyed even more the fact that it was parked right next to me!

Just a shite Mondeo?

Posted Image

Nah, look again: it's a celebration of the possibility of duct tape.

Posted Image

Why is there even tape on the doors? it's just too beautiful.

It also appears to have THOSE wheel trims that honestly, I reckon every 3rd gen. Auto shite had from about 18 months ago - where did these wheel trims come from specifically? They seemed to predominantly adorn 1st type Meganes, Late Cavaliers, Mondeos and at least one Avensis. Were they Halfraud's specials or sommat?

And finally, one of my own kind:

Spotted this dersh and felt obliged to park the mighty, mighty Slug mobile VII alongside for snappage opportunity and coz I love 2CVs - of course there was the possible danger of having to chat to the owner (as is often the case with showing an interest in classic/shite/old cars) but this time no nutter with whom to speak.

DISCLAIMER: I only suggest other old car owners are freaks because I am. :P

final unaccounted for blank? I just dunno!

I used to date a lass whose father drove a BX 4x4, and I believe the unaccounted for switch used to engage/disengage the 4wd.
Ah, a possibility that. Never did think about the 4x4.How long do you think he had his BX 4x4 before the splines n the transfer box stripped?
Posted

Love yours, by the way! Does the Mk1 dash have that awesome lift up cover that hides the radio/coin tray?

Nah, that was on the Mk2 BX - for as mad as it is, the Mk1 dash has a totally conventional radio location.

They did (probably still do?) them in Halfords, if I recall they were the cheapest set available, still something ridiculous like £20 though.

Your CX is luvverly j-j.I like the Popular - not trying (or just massively failing) to look cool.Which makes it look cool.

*COUGH* Prefect *COUGH*

One the subject of blanks, my Megane only has a rear fog light on the O/S, the N/S light cluster has a peice of plastic moulded across the hole for the bulb... which means either A: Renault went to the trouble of making different clusters for higher spec cars or B: some Pierre or Jean had the job of snipping the bit of plastic out at the factory...

Ah, deliberate mistake spotted! (honest)

Yes, they are part of the Halfords value range of wheeltrims. I thought it was the law Mondeos had to use silver tape to repair the bumpers?

I like Prefects, I think the 100E shape actually looks better with 4 doors. I'm not keen on that one (I think it's just the wheels though, it'd look GR8 with some slot mags or something) but it's good to see one still being used.My first car was a Prefect (XLA 947) and TBH they're a pain to drive on a daily basis, crap performance, crap wipers, thirsty, uncomfortable... so unless you're particularly masochistic you either have to uprate them or keep them for the static show season... Mine was scabby and standard so I just sold it... Hopefully it survives somewhere!

Posted

Prefect is FAB. But directional tyres going the wrong way? Why do people do this??

Posted

Didn't spot the tyres - probably due to dodgy fast fit tyre places not knowing nowt about.

Posted

was. can't sell - addicted. Need help

You don't know how close I was to buying your BX! I absolutely adore it.

No sooner do I report that I'd been spotting a Fiat Regatta for nearly 2 years but never got a snap does the very car turn up outside GSF

Tada!

Posted Image

It's in super condition

Posted Image

Turns out it's owned by a guy at GSF - should've known...

Mini with the necessary Union flag roof

That is truly insane, i thought my Piazza had a mental dashboard:

Please tell me that misshapen rocker switch at the top is for the indicators...

Posted

It's not insane - it's the most rational dash I've seen!

misshapen

dunno what you mean by misshapen but the rocker switch you can see is for the rear wash - wipe. But there is an equivalent mirror image one on the LH side which IS for the indicator - you're right! Non self cancelling greatness.Te Piazza dash is excellent - really like that. Boring dashboards are just not on..

I prefer the theory that the car supermarkets are all owned by the same parent company as Europes biggest manufacturer of plastic hubcaps, and have a nice sideline in selling OE wheeltrims secondhand on Ebay prior to "freshening up" their base-spec sales stock with these generic jobs. This style being particularly favoured because they are effectively a direct rip-off of the ones factory-fitted to late 1980s Beemers.

The increasing prevalence of alloys on mainstream stuff must be playing havoc with the economics of said operation. :)

Nice to see that some gaffataped old chod is managing to escape the scrappage scheme, I can imagine the average mk4 Cortina estate looking similarly shabby circa 1990.

I don't know why more cars don't have important switches clustered around the instrument panel, it's a much better setup than having them scattered about the dashboard. That Regatta is a honey! Registered in Inverness too, wonder if it's the village reverend's old car - he had a run of them, I think it was the cheapest car he could fit into at 6'8"

Micro update and some rubbish spots.

I've been living in Ashford near Staines the past few weeks and I am impressed with the shite down here - there's definitely much more shite on the roads here than back home. I have never seen so many Mk2 Fiestas in daily use and in seemingly good order.

Trouble is just about everything I have seen has so far been while driving

However I have these 3 shit pictures to start off before I get others uploaded (not got internet all the time at prez)

I hadn't seen one of these in yonks and now I see one every couple of days! here's one captured sleeping

Posted Image

Next a truly SHIT photo but can you make out what it is?

Posted Image

Next: I have also seen more of these than back home this one being especially shite and excellent. I really like these

Posted Image

And one of my own clan snapped in Staines Stainsbury's

Posted Image - ## You know you're driving shite when the Nigerian car washers in the car park don't ask if you want your car washed...any time I've been in there!

Also, got a snap of a Silver Datsun in the same car park with RR and ELV stickers on the window but it's in my camera phone and guess what : I iz forget my connection lead innit. So that'll have to wait a while..

General observation about England: there are more VW campers on the roads here than I care to deal with - there must be fooking loads of these around in general - I didn't realise.

Next: rescued BX estate

Posted Image

And to balance the books, a German expensive needing trailered (as you know this delights me greatly)

Posted Image

All I have at present but pickings are far from poor round here! will update soonwise

Regarding that Fiat Regatta you saw, i thought the very same, and i saw one the next day!Sadly on a bus, so picture not possibleALSO SAW AN UMM whilst on the bus! Yes there is a hideous amount of 'scened' VW buses down here, does my head in. And of course you also get the people, who because they like the camper, buses W/E they think they know everything about old cars. not a fan. Can you tell? How you finding ashford?

Posted

How you finding ashford?

S'awright innit (see how I've adopted the patois?) not been in a fight yet :D so I am saying it's OK. THough some people can't drive worth a fok here. I also sampled the joys of the road to hell.

Went out on my bike this morning and tried to find the Thames cycle/ tow path I'd been told about but it was an episode of FAIL (however I did get directions from a lovely young lady cyclist with a lovely accent) nuff of that.

I ended up on a fly over above the M3 at one pint and spent some time watching the weekenders going south towards the coast - saw an ace looking BMW from the late 60s poss 70s but don't know the model of that type - much chrome to the frontage and bloody lovely looking. Spotted a row of VW campers in convoy (again) and some MGs and such. A Rover 214 going really slowly. A second gen blob style Clio getting towed by the AA, a Jensen interceptor banging along like stink, some old motorbikes and Finally a S2 Renner 25. To see that amount of shite going past in one direction of a motorway back home you'd need to spend about an hour! all that was in about 10 minutes. Needless to say I bonbed it back to the rental flat and picked up the CX and hit the M3 myself for an afternoon jaunt down to Southampton where I did nothing more than drive there down past the docks (for some reason I was expecting it to be like Brighton or something and I'd have an oppo to stop for a seaside photo) and then got lost due to the shit road signs and a shitter sense of direction. The M3 yeilded not much more than an old Benz, some MORE VW campers, a mini, and an impromptu race between me and a bitch in a gold Bora. Dunno why really coz I couldn't give a stuff who's faster. Though it was me.

Saw a barried Renner 5 Ali G style in a petrol station to the west of S'ampton.

Spotted this with its bonnet up and decided to go for a chat - nice bloke and wife and baby on tour - mini just needed water.

Nothing else to report yet. There will be more I insist.

The m3 eyyy? my local motorway!Yes there is a serious amount of those VEE DUBS around here, i mostly think its due to richer old men trying to prove they were hippies and have the wheels to show it. Probably dont even remember the sixties but there we go.I cant say ive been to ashford, but glad all is well.Ive been to Ramsgate however. avoid ramsgate if you ever get the chance to go, its not particularly nice.A person i was with actually said to me that they were surprised i wasnt beaten up. Lovely thing to hear....

Good stuff there, j-j, your Weegie photos always have me trying to work out what side of the river they were taken!Have you spoted the "I'm a Scot who wants to be back in Scotland but work's forced me down here against my will longterm" type person yet? They can usually be found with a Herald/Scotsman/Daily Record under their arm!
