So then....

Dropped into Renault/Dacia Carlisle.

Got Me, anklebiter & swmbo slotted into a MCV - nice & roomy!

Sadly, a new 1.5d Laureate @ 11.5k .... ha ha ha ha

Went 'round the back' and had a sit in a 1.2 16V Sandero (14) 20,000 @ 5.4k[edit..doh!]

Popped the bonnet - ram supported!!! - and, lo, it was Proton SAVVY all over again :) Hydro PAS.

Hmmm... Didn't have a 0.9TCE engine on the lot (DERV is King!!)

Fabulously devoid of, quite frankly, anything 'extra' - beating a Robin by 1 wheel - deffo after getting the Malaysian Wheelbarrow through the Aug M.O.T. I will be looking for a deal...

Gutted the 'giant panda' Sandero can't be had with 0.9TCE powwah :(

Well... Can't have everything, eh?

Did you get a chance to test drive it/them? They look good to my eyes and the spatan spec appeals to me but not sure what they drive like and haven't spoken to anyone who's test driven one either.

Strictly 'brumm, brumm' noises M8 :(

However, it is EPICALLY dire ;) - bereavement notes will flood in from neighbours (running £***pm VWs) - yeah!! You can really stand at your front door, thumbs hitched into yrr breeches, and LARRF at them lol.

My Savv is recorded 'officially' as having a high shell rigidity - epic levels, actually - IT DOES NOT CREAK!!

Road testers have moaned of 'poor body rigidity' in the Dashha - rattly doors :(

A road test around the local council will be included in any 'road trip' for me... ;)

My friend has a 0.9 Stepway, I meaning to get a go of it.

They don't do a 0.9 Sandero? Or just didn't have one in?

There's a 0.9 Sandero at Evans Halshaw Sunderland, TooSavvy... just under 5k, 3 year old with 20k on the clock. Thinking man's spec too - Laureate (cruise + A/C FTW) but with steel wheels. I'm tempted but I've pretty much convinced myself to keep the KIA going for a year or three, by which time it's probably at the end of its useful life.

Cheers monami :)

I'm on 9yr [brand new] with MrSavvy + ZERO ftp ;)

SWMBO is itchy feet + (agreed) synchronous seatbelt clicking results in 'elbow fencing' - a tad narrow in the front.

I wring the 16V Clio motor (D4F) in my Savv half2dethh & it is a 'fizzer' 2B fair...

A lightweight Trbott must be the TOOL OF CHOICE when 'upgrading'.. The lolzz.

This. After a break of a few months due to brake issues THE MIGHTY PRIDE is about to return to the roads.

I've got a Logan diesel - bought it in October 2014, and covered 23,000 completely fault free and chilled-out miles in it since. My only criticisms are the location of the electric window switches and no 'one touch' function to raise/lower them. My other; there's no flick-wipe on the wipers. Err...that's it.

I can't fault it. It is genuinely a bloody good car. It's roomy inside, has a properly shaped rear load area (rare on an estate now - they've all morphed into useless 'sport wagons') but the rear leg room is a bit crap for back seat passengers (clio underpinnings show their hand here?).

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think they're good looking cars - quite purposeful. They don't seem to be 'social death' either - the worse reaction I get when I tell people what I drive is a non committal 'oh right'. No one's ever had anything negative to say - it's pretty unremarkable. The fact it is completely out of step with the 'me, me, me' all fur coat and no knickers 'look how successful I am with my Audi' thing that everyone subscribes to these days is great, too. I've never owned a fashionable car yet!

.... fashionable? .... This IS A$ ;)

3 years ago we seriously considered a Dacia Duster for Mrs N, instead spent £10k on a 2007 Gaylander. The ultra basic interior and lack of a/c were factors. Although it did drive ok. In 3 years and 70,000 miles I've spent £1,500 on repairs - 2!!! X clutch slave cylinder fails ( plus 2 clutches and 1 DMF) .

WBAC reckon it's worth £6,200, I was offered £5,400 against a Merc R500 last week , if I advertise it , it'll be for about £6,500 Ono on Autotrader.

2013 Dacia Duster on Autotrader , admittedly low miles- £5,800.

So was the £1500 worth it for climate, leather etc ? To me, yes definitely , can't imagine a Duster would have been as nice or capable on long Autoroute journies, mild green lanes etc, and there's the image* or snob factor to consider. Bet a Duster would have been more economical though, 30 mpg for a small modern 6 speed manual Dizzler is terrible .

I suppose if reliability and saving every penny were important there would be no reason not to buy a Dacia or whatever shit the Chinese start dumping in the next couple of years.

Aye... ^^^ ..... & thankyou for that!

I really fancy trying out a Duster but it has to be 4x4, which pretty much means it has to be diesel to move, which gets expensive and then I go back to "but I could have a brand new SLK on lease"...

Then remember my SLK has done 5 years for little more than the deposits on two 3 year deals.

The Sandero is available with the 0.9 TCe, but only in Ambiance and Lauréate spec.  The Access is only available with the old 1.2 16v Clio engine, in flat white with black bumpers, keep fit windows all round and steel wheels with no trimz.  The basic Logan MCV gets body colour bumpers but costs an extra grand.

Yes, I was seriously considering buying one new last year.

^^^ ..... Panda spec. would do me. :)

NO 0.9TCE >>> twuntts! :(

KF windows + nonAC, fcuk! I live with it now ;) NaaPraablem M8

On a slightly unrelated note I see Ford are selling the megalard new Mondeo with the 1.0 Ecoboost engine. I've a feeling that engine might have a short and very stressful life in there.

I really want a Sandero Access as a courtesy car / spare runaround

Don't have £6k spare so a 180k battered Panda will need to do if I ever get its replacement engine in!
