Bangers For BEN – Introdukshon & Collekshon

Rightly or wrongly, more money is raised when if there's fun and adventure to be had than just hanging out your cap. Plus a bunch of sign-written cars will advertise the charity and the company involved when they do their jaunt.

Thanks for all the support. It is a charity event that has grown in size and popularity each year. The charity wouldn't keep the event going if it wasn't worth while.

Anyway, when I did our Pre-purchase test drive (not as brave as you guys who buy unseen of the interweb) I noted the clutch was beginning to slip when pushed in 3rd up a hill, presumably why the previous owner of 12 years decided it was time to move on, what with the MOT looming and all.

So car on ramp with gearbox out, we were on the rivets on the cover side, flywheel all good. We will do the three belts as one off them is about to let go. The car drove well for the 75 miles i did in it and i have to say i was impressed with it. The clutch was a 'must do' because as we campaign the car around the UK prior to the run, we will be putting some miles on it. We will leave the MIL light on as the gaffer tape that the PO had put over it is quite a tidy job.

Other than that, it is just rattle can painting and branding for which the corporate donations are building niceley.

someone asked, why an Avensis, Tom is the clue http://www.speedworksmotorsport.com/

Id be happy with that Toyota for my daily work hack tbh, anyone want to sponsor me to drive it to work and back for a year? Itll probably be quite dull, it might need tyres for some excitement at some point

You'd have to cover it in hilarious* stickers, wear a dress, and sit in a bath of beans while driving it.

Could be done...

I nearly got the bonnet of the zx wrapped in TNT orange. When we rebranded to whistl, when TNT became its own company they dropped off a stupid fibreglass whistle at the office, and inside it was a roll of the orange wrap. So nearly stole it, but it would have been a bit blatent

I do 30k a year in one of these.

The most exciting thing that's happened this year is the clutch slipped. Twice.

At 181k I treated it to a new one.

It's boring again now.

I had a 1998 Avensis 2.0 CDX for a while, I found it reliable, likeable, packed with luxury features and above all exciting and rewarding to own and drive.

But then, come to think about it I have an incredibly boring life.

Not until it's wearing brake pads you got from the scrappy.

I know 'Banger Rallys' are not everyone's favourite, but like many, i've been messing with old cars since I was in short trousers. Anyway, I though we would support BEN Motor Industry Charity 'because we can'. I lost some info in the unfortunate 'forum fire' but we have been busy with our British Touring Car Clone. We set a target of £25000 and are pretty close to that. Be great if Autoshite members can support us, for a £1 (less than we may spend on a roffle for summit) Text UGCB99 £1 to 70070 or see us on https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Unipart-Bangers

Makes you wonder if we should do an Autoshite charity thing?
