I've got  a book by him about his cars, a wide selection of stuff indeed. Mercedes 600, Bentleys with leather bonnet straps, Talbot Lago GP, Porsche new and old, RR Silver Ghost, Willys Jeep, 2CVs and DS's plus loads of fine old stuff. No garage queens, they were all used hard.

I suspect you are thinking of Alan Clark, he had loads of cars mainly Rolls Royce and Bentley but including his 2cv, Porsche engined Beetle and Land Rover Discovery. He once got told off for selling cars from the Houses of Parliament parking garage.

 

Don't forget the collection of Jags, old and new.  His first car as a schoolboy was effing Bentley 6.5 !

I used to live in North Oxfordshire. It's a wealthy area and there are loads of folk with serious coin who drive around in bangers. I used to know the late Peter Greenham, an artist retained by HM Queen, very well paid and very highly regarded. An absolutely charming man who drove high mileage Volvos until they were completely fucked. His wife Jane was just the same. Her T reg 340 was the stuff of legend because it wasn't washed once in 11 years. The local high court judge lived in a 7 bedroom mansion and drove a Renault 21 Savanna for years and his obnoxious wife (awful woman) had a Metro.

 

These are not boy done good the only way is Witney people. They don't give a shit. I can imagine Mrs C driving a Micra. Dumped at the train station, lent to the nanny, washed once a year.

 

But usually serviced by a main dealer, and the bill isn't ever looked at.
