plasticvandan Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 love these immensely, there was a few great documentarys about them on youtube before the bbc got them pulled.really nice to see one painted as per original too
Craig the Princess Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 One of the two is still on youtube, I think this is the one with Saville removed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXN4GEJgKZ8
Urko Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 The second train is what we should have been getting instead of the HST.https://youtu.be/p9rBcSZb3bE?list=PLF9617311849AFFFCFabulous film - the APT packed with advanced equipment - a bloke with a beard and check sports jacket peering at an oscilloscope, the geezers on the HST test all smoking away - happy days Jesus wept, that Wansford vid of the prototype, clagging as bad as a fucked Deltic! Valentas hate idling, used to see the East Midlands sets black smoke like a bastard when pulling away from SheffieldThe bloke filming was coughing from the smoke at the start too which was good for a smirk from me.
gm Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 There's a railway line at the end of my garden, nothing exciting, just a dmu or two every half hour. I was outside tonight fighting with a rotary washing line (see grump) when caught the sound of something different andrew e, Six-cylinder, Disco Fever and 1 other 4
RichL Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Valenta! she screamed. 41001 in action this afternoon. Sounded sweet. Disco Fever, Asimo, Richard and 7 others 10
Disco Fever Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Fatha DIsco was HST project engineer at Derby Loco works. As a result, I've always got a soft spot for them, even now in quiet engine form. They give passengers what they want; quiet spacious carriages with no motors rumbling away beneath you. Voyagers round us have a smell of ancient fart from the toilets straight off shed. They'll not be missed like IC125 when it eventually goes to pasture. Richard 1
Ghosty Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Agreed! I'm sick of DMUs and their underfloor engines.
Guest Lord Sward Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I used to bunk out of school on a lunch time to watch the HSTs when they were on a ECML diversion onto the Leamside Line. agw9262 1
Ditchfinder General Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I papped 43002 on the sea wall at Dawlish whilst on holiday last week. Beautiful looking thing. Hopefully I'll get chance to see the prototype running at Ruddington this Sunday. BorniteIdentity, danthecapriman, forddeliveryboy and 5 others 8
Pillock Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Oh, if only they'd wrapped the coaches too. That would be perfect. Oh, and it needs to take off in a cloud of thick black smoke accompanied by the sound of a dozen apocalypses. martybabes and Ditchfinder General 2
Ditchfinder General Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 This is the best video in the world for those interested in HSTs. Drivers eye view of Exeter to Saltash with plenty of sea wall porn at Dawlish/Teignmouth and plenty of train based chord coming the other way including class 142 Pacers just after they'd been introduced down there and plenty of class 50's. It also has the best soundtrack ever cos Valenta and the most 80's intro and incidental music you've ever heard. Seriously takes me back, mum used to sit me in front of this when I was really young to keep me quiet! Preview here; I can't find the full thing on YouTube anywhere. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RP56nz6_pds danthecapriman, Fat_Pirate, Vantman and 1 other 4
Ghosty Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Managed to catch a rare sight on my way home - an HST in Manchester. And the New Measurement Train no less! CreepingJesus 1
83C Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 You'll all be wanting this video: https://youtu.be/C1ICcOu0NkM W43002 a few weeks ago leaving Exeter: BorniteIdentity and Fat_Pirate 2
CreepingJesus Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 The seawall at Dawlish is brilliant. I remember being on holiday at Dawlish Warren in the mid 80s, and my grandad (a railway man through and through) told me I had to go and wait on the path for an HST to come by there. Me being me I climbed up on the wall...Up close and personal I believe they call it. The overhead view from the hill at the western end is pretty odd too. agw9262 1
