Dan's Dross: More Dewsbury Toss

About time I got a spots thread up, just due to one shot tonight really. I'm intending to keep my camera with me so I can get stuff like this more often.

Super-clean BG 323 saloon in Wakefield. I don't know what the witch/broomstick stickers are about. Driven by a very old man. Also had a Hella spotlamp grille and add-on front fogs! I'd be surprised if it had more than 20K on it, seriously mint. The funny thing is that these are actually pretty quick.

Ford Corsair relaxing in Doncaster, nice and tidy.

The reason for this thread. Absolutely mint-looking Malaga, I've seen this before there so it must be a visitor. This time I had my camera. Stunning three-tone paint. Should I leave a note?

Stay tuned for more exciting pictures (of Carina IIs probably).

I mistook the witches for Japanese characters at first...

I think the Malaga needs to be added to the Holy Grail shite list, to keep the Tagora and the grey-grille Sierra company 8)

:D I thought the same.

The "Witch on Broomstick" symbol is commonplace across the Pennines in Pendle District - something to do with the myths and legends of Pendle Hill.

Indeed, I reckon it should be a fixture of the Autoshite Museum of Tat - it looks absolutely stunning too, not dented or rotten etc. If I recall it was a 1.5 GLX, the pics I have of the back are too blurry to tell.Should see it again soon I hope! Seems to turn up on Sundays.

Seems to be a very late model Malaga, My fossils had a Ibiza XL (G998KWX) so this will be a facelift one.Shame as it will miss out on the wacky Citroenesque switchgear. But hey ITS A MALAGA!

SEAT malaga is weapons-grade shite, no doubt about it. Wonder how many remain? I had an E-reg 1200 one when it was about 6 years old, already had a little rust hole on one of the strut tops. PLus it was totally average to drive and was disappointingly uneconomical. I would have another tomorrow!

Posted

Regrettably I had to attend some family "do" in Butlins again this year, however this time I took the Galant so I could just spend all day driving around instead. This is some of what happened.

So on Saturday, the first spot was this little honey.....

Posted Image

Was unattended but I saw it again on Sunday, driven by some old boy who parked it in the same place and started fiddling under the bonnet. Nice one!

Posted Image

Also spotted this pottering around a corner and caught up with it later, he was just sat there idling for some reason. Surprisingly, it is red with wire wheels.

Posted Image

Wouldn't usually take a shot of a Punto but this was nice, the alloys were stock ones and it had some kind of wooden steering wheel too! Didn't seem to have any extra badges or anything so God knows what it is. I liked it.

Posted Image

I'm going to start taking photos of Impians I think. I suspect it will be for the best.

Posted Image

And a bit further up was this surprisingly tidy (but dirty) Vanette with unappealing grey front, saw some burly bloke driving around in it later on.

Posted Image

Sadly, they didn't have any Carinas of the variety I like.

Posted Image

The taxis in Skegness are a right strange bunch, they must not have any age rules. This was the oldest thing I found but there was also a Rover 800 Sterling out and about!

Posted Image

Piaggio Ape inexplicably on a balcony.

Posted Image

So anyway, I went for a cruise around Lincolnshire's incredibly well sign-posted countryside.

Posted Image

And went to various locations. Next stop: Mablethorpe!

Posted Image

Does anyone else find themselves deliberately parking next to old clag?

Posted Image

This is a beach. No cars are allowed on the beach.

Posted Image

Obviously I had thoroughly unacceptable footwear for walking on sand dunes, but I dealt with it. Then I went for a drive around some more and headed back for a thoroughly uncomfortable night where I sat around in a bar looking slightly awkward, followed by standing around in a club looking exceptionally awkward. Then bed.

The next day I return from Skegness Pier after another day of pissing money away into my fictional Eunos Cosmo (Wangan Midnight 3), to find some scened-up Jetta near my car. Wonder if he's done like me and the CF?

Posted Image

Super tidy though! The end.

I drive past that Corsair daily, there's sometimes a Mk1 Cortina in 2 tone White and Yellow, and not seen for a while was a Green Super Minx Estate. That's about a mile from me. Should have poppped in for tea in a chipped mug.....

Posted

Good work there Hirst, excellent relative avoidance.I am strangely drawn to the mk2 Jetta, they would appear to have an enormous boot that I would fill with stuff, because I could.

Posted

Good stuff there! Sounds like a cunning way to avoid a weekend of MISERY.Like the Jetta very much myself, looks spot on even if it is a little 'scened'

I can see me getting an Impian when they are about 15 years old - one that some old boy has cherished since new. It's one of those really inappropriate large cars that no-one with street cred would ever consider. That's why it would suit me....

There are quite a few round my way because one of the well established middle of nowhere garages has a franchise and all the silvertops in the area who have been going there for years just buy whatever they are selling this year - it used to be Vauxhall, now it's Proton.

They also have a deal to supply Humberside Police - a lot of taxis round here are ex-police Wiras with LPG.

- practically EVERY time I spot something where I'm stopping for sure.

The Corsair used to look better when it was blue...............and tatty!

Posted

Yeah my cunning plan to avoid the relatives worked brilliantly! The bulk of the weekend was a pointless cruise around the countryside, looking at old "fingerpost" road signs and pondering where to drive next, occasionally getting out for a walk or a bottle of pop. I don't really "do" holidays, but I would be up for 2-3 days of that I think. Much better than the usual holiday experience of being surrounded by loud pillocks and trying to convince myself that I'm having a good time.

Posted

Just on the subject of old taxis, there is a white Audi 80/90 being used in Lampeter which is an L reg. Anyone know of any older minicabs than that?

Posted

There's a K-reg Sierra in Inverness. Those Impians are very exclusive cars, I've only seen one or two before, always in silver.

The silver ones round here have blue lights on top and big red stripes down the side - you'd soon spot them!

Here's some more old rammel.

Immediately after I took this in the car park of a local market, a really nice lass clocked me and walked past, however seeing as I was taking a photo of a scabby Sierra I considered the chances of a relationship doubtful.

Not a spot, but Vicsmith's Mazda Familia Interplay XG Extra 1300 Base. Two-toned for your pleasure!

PRE-68 IS COMING

Delicious V6 hardtop action from an Ẽfini MS-8 (Mazda).

I was trying to get a picture of the bad boy Punto but unfortunately I missed and got this Capri 280 Brooklands instead. The background sums up Dewsbury very well.

Posted Image

RICHAAAARD! Had a look at this, it's for sale. Price is a little high as the MOT is nearly out, might pop down at that point.

MK2 Fiesta outside a pub.

Is that Efini Mazda thing the same bodyshell as the Xedos 9 - looks very similar. If I owned a 280 Brooklands I wouldn't park it outside an all-comers cheque cashing place, must be all sorts of lowlifes constantly coming in and out. Think I'll give Dewsbury a miss next time I'm in Yorkshire!

Posted

Hirsty my old mate, where did you spot the silver saph? Im sure Ive seen it parked up recently ( the 4spoke capri laser wheels on the back makes it stand out) but I cant for the life of me remember where...

Posted

Castleford Market, haven't seen it since though.

Posted

Most interesting! £400 and it is on the same MOT, I did notice it had a 6 month tax disc so I assumed it didn't belong to some old boy. If he gets it, fair play I suppose!

Bigger pic here for wallpaper because it's just so damn cool: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3660/358 ... f289_o.jpg

COOLEST TRUCK EVER! That bloke who appears to be sat in the bed of it got in and drove off. It even has a load of construction materials in it. What a bloody hero.

Thats an amazing pic, nothing else in the picture to suggest it isnt 1975, other than the sky dishes.

I imagine the owner is going to park at his destination and unload 'handball' style, with long-epxpired cigarette hanging from his mouth :)

TOP THREAD. I  early CFs. Much better than the normal T3 Transporter/early shagged "aero" Mk2 Transit alternative builder pickup fair we have to get excited about round here.
