My new daily.

This one may not interest you guys but here goes..

For the last year I've had a 2011 Astra 1.7 CDTI as my daily. 125bhp, £30 tax etc. Did the job but it was very mundane & not a fun place to be.

This lead me to the 'Swapz' website, cue the usual half the value offers 'swop 2nite m8?' ETC. Away with work in Manchester at the weekend and I received an interesting offer.. But he lived in Devon.

No problem, skip to Monday morning & a 4 hour drive from

Norfolk to Gordano services on the M5, Bristol.. I did a straight swap for this:

2007 BMW 325D M Sport, 3.0 Diesel, rare manual, 240bhp, full leather etc. Perfect 6 cylinder barge.

It returned 47.2mpg on the journey home and I'm absolutely in love with it. Sounds awesome.

It does have a slight DMF rattle so I'll have to address that once the 306 has sold.

Anyway, new more fun more character daily is here after 450 miles on a Monday :)

Cheers

:)

Top trading that.

ALL VOXLZ R SHIT.

You knew that; maybe the other bloke didn't??

I've never seen a diesel BMW here in the USA, let alone a diesel/manual trans combination.

It is a very peculiar thing in that part of the world, Diesel and manual is very common.

A slight DMF rattle eh ????

Oh dear.

OK......so I get the that you are trading modern shit for something older.

What is important now is that you don't stop.....a couple more reverse updates should see you in the correct territory.

Isn't a Rover 75 a diesel BMW? A couple of backwards swaps and you are there! Top swapping!

A swap website? Why is gumtree full of swap morons if there is a place for these people?

Posted

Swapz is a whole new level (lower) than even gumtree . Hard to believe but its true

It's obviously a good way to get rid of moderns with expensive bills looming.

My brother has a 3 series BM of the same generation, and, give it its dues, it's a well bolted together motor. The six-cylinder tdi is a good one as well, and sounds fantastic. I'm not surprised there's DMF rattle on yours though - 158k when MOTd last summer - I wonder if it's the original clutch?

The DMF and Clutch for this is going to be thick end of a grand plus labour so brace yourself.

Its not bracing he needs- its lube;)

not a bad swap there OP- looks anfairly clean car:)

I only know as my garage landlord changed the dmf and clutch on a 320d (E46) and it cost about about £1000 for the parts. 200 miles later it eat it's swirl flaps and lunched the motor  .

Saying that I don't think these later one's have that swirl flap issue.

My experience with this generation of BMW isn't good, I think I would have kept the astra.

Good luck though!

Had a workmate who used swapz regularly. Everytime he did a swap the new motor had hidden faults that ended up costing a fortune.  I'm sure they are some genuine people on there but the site does seem like a great place to dispose of something with a multitude of faults.

There is usually some quality lolz to be had on swapz though so it's worth a visit for that.

Hmm, swapped car from internet that already has DMF death rattle. This can only really go one way, can't it?

I have an E92 325d, love it. 240bhp... is remapped then? My last company car in 2014 was the same Astra too but in tourer format, so boring!

Just like a Mondeo.

No swirl flaps to worry about on the 325d, its got a different intake manifold to the 330d with the issues... part of the detuning process which has made it more reliable!

PS my local clutch/gearbox specialist (Triple S in Leicester) is £895 for clutch and DMF fitted, cheapest around.

£450~ for a LUK clutch/DMF kit & £150 to fit.

Yes it's mapped, I'm over the moon with it. Really is lovely to drive!

I spoke to the previous owner today who owned it for 5 years prior to part exchanging it to a garage who obviously sold it/auctioned it to the trader I swapped with.

He purchased it back in 2011, said he had no problems with it & that it's a great car he just got a newer model which is reassuring!

I appreciate some of you don't appreciate this thread but I do also have a shite car, just thought it might be OK to post pics of my daily too.. Sorry, I thought the forum was a little more welcoming if I'm honest! Shame.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the car but won't mention it again. I'll stick to the shite 306.

Don't take it personally, we've just got a load of grumpy old fuckers on here who only seem happy when they are moaning about something or putting someone down.

I enjoyed hearing about your car. It looks like you got yourself a good deal there. Don't be put off by the ribbing, they're friendly really, just scared of moderns and all their foibles. I must admit I too am scared of dmf's in particular having been bitten by one before and it hurt! Sounds like you can get it sorted though for not too much.

Pistonheads fodder

Maybe, but sometimes it's interesting hearing about running a modern from an autoshite perspective.

Posted

Not saying I don't like any modern cars (my only vehicle is 12 years old - I'd prefer something a lot older but reality bites) but it's a strange forum to choose to post about a newish diesel BMW that's presumably still worth a fair bit of money.

I heard a clearly tuned and newish 530D taking off and it sounded great, is the 325D a six pot?
