Thank you everyone for your advice, it's all being taken on board, anybody know where I can buy or find a new exhaust manifold? EBay and Google searches are coming up a blank. :(

You could have a word with Audibits2 on ebay, think his real name is Mike - he breaks audis up and b3/b4 cars are his bread and butter. Have had a few bits off him over the years, just make sure he sets up a private auction for you so you can trade on ebay in case the part "gets lost".

Theres also www.audicoupeparts.co.uk havent used him personally but have come across him elsewhere on the internet, seems standup.

No idea! It can't see it as it's under what i think is the inlet manifold, does anybody else know as this is all new territory to me!

Agree^^^^ Looks plausible, whats it off do we know?

I am pretty sure the five pot Passat is only a tooleater, and the 2,2 has three downpipe outlets.

Does anybody know if that manifold Vantman has kindly found would fit for sure?

you need to check if yours has the three into one down pipe or the two into one, I'm sure the Passat is a two litre not the 2.2

Hmm, I know mine defo only has 2, its a 2.2 like Triggers and Ive just been to double check.

The part number for the 90 is nearly identical to the one in the listing 035 129 591 but with a "q" on the end... I am unsure what the difference would be but looking at mine just, there are several brackets, heatshield and the inlet manifold that all attach.

Mine is the model before triggers and I'm 100% sure it has the three into one downpipe, its a bit late to try and take a pic tonight,

Your right it does look like that it is a two into one downpipe,

and on that bombshell I am going to find it even harder to get a new pipe for mine now.

The complete engine would be a waste of time as there is a hole in the manifold.

And it's wrong anyway, that's got the hole for the cat emissions or what ever it's called, the first one is a 3 to 1 too which won't work. Cheers anyway.

Whoever mentioned the radio switching thing - cheers. Our A4 still has its (working!) factory Sony cassette/CD changer setup, but it doesn't turn off with the key.

I would hope there's more than one!

I could actually do with some advice on this, my mates offered me a pair of brand new front shocks for it that he bought for his late 2.6 Coupe before it blew up, a look on Google says the part number is the same but Coupes have gas shocks were as mine are oil standard or gas as a upgrade.

Now depending that they do definitely fit can I mix gas front shocks with the oil rear ones or would I have to change them all. Also do i need a special socket to undo the strut top mount nut?. Thanks.

Have always replaced like with like on mine, but in answer to your third question you need 2 "special tools"

VAG3078 - 22mm slotted socket

VW524 - slotted nut removal tool.

Easily obtainable on ebay.

The top nut comes off like this:

The slotted nut lives underneath - do not undo until you have your spring compressors on!

I'm to tight to buy one of them (actually I never knew they existed) so my 22mm deep socket has Stilson Jaw marks on it (that way you can put an allen key down the unused rachet drive square

I've just bit the bullet and ordered them both of eBay. I got a 22mm lambda socket instead, thats another £15 the car owes me!

I've been having fun with parts on this today, I ordered some leads and filters of "car parts 4 less" online, never used them before but they were the cheapest on the leads so went for it, this morning my package arrives, filters are in the box but no leads, look at invoice, leads "to follow" so i ring them up.

I get through to a Indian lady, she hasn't a clue what I'm on about, what has happened to the leads, are they coming and why wasn't i told when i ordered them, she kept asking me to take a photo of the missing leads and email it to her??!! I started to get a pissed off to be honest, in the end she went off and came back about 5 minutes later to say they will be with me tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath.

In other news I've also got a pair of Boge front shocks on the way from my local motor factors, they priced match some KYB ones i found on ebay at £55 for the pair, the other motor factors wanted £48 each for KYB ones!
