Scrappage scheme cars

Probably the chancellor, as they always do, was waiting for the scrap prices to be as low as utterly possible so that the tax-payer gets the absolute worst possible deal.

/\ Did you read the last post though?

Quote [A tea leaf]

Visited recently and not a single classic car or rust box. Only brand new cars, some registered, some not. Security was very tight, nearly got caught on the runway!

Security can't have been that tight, they got onto the runway and only nearly got caught!!

Varies depending on who you speak to. A chap has just informed me that the site was largely cleared late last year.

If a large number were removed where did they go to and why isn't there any pictures of them on transporters or sitting in a scrapyard somewhere? The net was awash with pics of crushed Minors and the like at the time, and now nothing.

I'd imagine it's been shared recently on facebook or similar by some sort of clickbait shitehawks:

THESE CARS JUST WANTED TO TAKE THEIR OWNERS TO THE SHOPS, YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT...

Da skrappage skeem is an outrage, like and share if you agree etc...

Liked and shared, Thank Jesus x

I fell out with my Family over the Scrappage scam.

Facts are this

I had a very shit to less than average mk3 astra 1.6 8v spi with more than a little rust. R reg worth £500 at the time

My sister had a 5 door W reg fiesta 1.25 with low miles and a service history, which would have been a great starter car for our kids. at the time worth £1500 ? She had not had it long enough to qualify for scrappage deals.

She wanted to buy a New Fiesta from local Ford Dealer in Banger at full price.

I offered to buy the Fiesta using my astra for a £2K discount, and then transfer it into her name.

No She px'd the first fiesta getting £1000 off the second fiesta.

Because "too much hassle"

So I could have had a £1500 car by giving her my £500 car, and she could have had £2K off and not £1000 off.  I was fucking livid.

Then My dad decides to part ex his 51 reg focus estate 2.0 Ghia with £100K on the clock for a New Focus Estate (£18000 IIRC).

I offered him the same deal. And he just goes ahead and gets £120 in PX for the Old Focus despite that he does meet the ownership criteria.

I was more than fucking livid.

Except I'm 99% sure you had to have owned the car in your name for 12 months.

I had a similar experience to new pod.  Friend put his wife's 40K mile 206 in against a new car, and I tried to get my wife to put her Astra instead, or better still another friends 200K mile Astra that was just hanging.  Friend was ok with it but the rest weren't!

Andrew E -yes you had to have the car in your name for 12 months but there was no rule against buying one, handing a car in and promptly selling the new one to the person who really wanted it. Just put an extra name on the V5.

Still, that first Astra went to friends and then came back to me and I am using it part time now.  So not all bad, right?

I guess this has all been done to death now.

There were ways to get around that. Plenty of folk seemed to enjoy trading in grandad's low mileage minter just for the glory of a 'new' number plate for a few months.

The whole point is that my sister/parents could have sent me the money by BACS, with the spec. I could have bought the car, sc-rape-gaged the astra, driven the new car to them, filled in the V5's and they'd have a new car for less money than it cost them whilst at the same time I'd get a better car for nothing but my time.

So anyone who buys a new car is a moron, nice.

not at all but sending a perfectly usable car to scrap in order to gain a shiny new modern piece of shit doesn't make any sense to me.

I know what your saying but we all seem to forget that to some people a car be it a classic or brand new is just a tool for them to get from a to b, it doesn't make people who buy new morons or anything else that is often used to describe the new car buyers on here.

And if it wasn't for the morons buying new cars we wouldn't have the shite to pick from anyway.

Sorry this wasn't a "all new cars are shit" rant. It was aimed at the endless amount of dreamers who think that signing a petition will end up getting them a classic car saved from that airfield. I know that if nobody bought new cars 20 years ago there would be none to choose from now. The point was that trading in a desirable classic car for 2k off a new kia was a bit wasteful. You've clearly taken what I've said out of context.
