2001/2 Peugeot 406 HDi saloon, long MOT £225 SOLD

2001/2 (will check when I'm home) 406HDi 110bhp

MOT August or October (again will check later)

159,000 miles. Allegedly had rear brakes recently and some other work but I have no proof of this.

Electric drivers seat, standard stereo etc

Seems to run ok and if makes it to the next MOT it's not really going to owe you anything.

Car phone fitted! You'll need a SIM card though and I don't know if phone will still work but it comes on ok

Driver's window doesn't open

Bonnet appears to have been cleaned with an acetone soaked Brillo pad attached to a 29,000 HP jet washer

More than one dent

Airbag light on

Central locking doesn't work off the key, probably because the buttons are broken. Locks manually and key obvs works ignition and doors/boot lock

Seems desperately slow in first and second gear, especially when cold.

3rd gear from 3,000rpm on is an absolute blast though

There's sure to be other things too (one tyre close to limit for example) but hopefully this is an attractive enough price for the car. If you end up weighing it on at some point I'm told the cat is worth MEGA VALU but that could be bollocks.

Cam belt roulette with this car too as no idea when last done.

If you haven't been put off yet the pictures might make it worse. Any inspection invited, if you're miles away ask another shiter who is nearer to come and look at it for you and report their findings back on this thread.

The "car phone" is true autoshite

I guess it's still illegal to use that while driving given its just a Nokia 5110 in a charging cradle

Why didn't I buy this instead of my claptrap?

Ah hindsight got me again, you old bastard you.

Can't you price it at 425 to make mine look more attractive?

Posted

I found a few old MOTs and some bills from 2009 which will 100% compensate* for the lack of spare wheel.

This looks an ideal candidate for HDi/vegging experimentation. Have you tried any in it Billy?

Apparently it's the lift pump that spits its dummy out, rather than anything more fundamental.

Not yet, but it's tempting! I've just Googled the 'performance' issue and it looks like the MAF sensor which I CBA trying at this price. I will, however, try a sim card in the phone.

MOT is October.

I'm pretty sure the sim card will sort the performance issues if the MAF doesn't.

I'd just try unplugging the MAF for now and see if that makes any difference ... That said, it's a £200 car, so probably not worth spending too much time on.

Kinda like this more than my Almera.REGRET!

I've had a few of them, but then again, too few to mention

I think the problem is that it spits its dummy into other, more expensive, bits of the fuel system.

Phone almost working, got the texts etc up but not accepting incoming calls at the minute. Could be my sim card though so will keep trying.

I've just received a box from ECP so my Almera mojo has returned..

lift pump... spits its dummy into other, more expensive, bits of the fuel system.

Hmm... how about swapping out the sender for one off a pre-HDi 406, and fitting an in-line pump? (Just thinking out loud here.)

Just fit a primitive twin tank setup, start it on veg oil heavily thinned down with petrol, switch over to 100% veg when it's warmed through.

Let me guess - a Renault coil pack, a generic oil filter (used), and a front wing for a mk4 Astra...?

;)

Nope, ARB bushes.. Which I can't fit as the bolts are seized to fook...

Very elegant cars these, the facelift ones look the best too. I'd like a silver one with the 2.0 pez engine please, ideally an 'executive' trim effort.

I think that was an Executive, there was a badge on the side saying something like that anyhow. These 406s seem a bit of a step up in refinements from the 405, as they should have been. It still had annoying wind noises though, I think they must have built them in from new.

*Edit: my car trader mate bought this and has banged it straight up for £395!
