Just got mine through the letter box Billy Bolx. Ordered 3rd March.

Have had a quick skim while on my lunch break. Looks ace actually! Looking forward to a proper read over the weekend.

Just seen this and ordered my copy, looks like a good read, plus I like getting first editions!

Has anyone else received theirs by post yet?

Amusingly, mine hasn't come through yet, but that's probably down to the iffyness of Welsh post.

Mines arrived, great content but do agree you missed a trick with the cover. Lots to read though, thanks.

2 new magazines in the last 6 month's that I know I'll like! (Modern Classic's being the other)

I'll be looking for a copy in the weekend! LS400 Vs XJR for starters and the fact me and retro Jap stuff have a history together.  :-)

Albeit, not always the best history, thank you AW11 MR2 & Cappuccino...

I love Japanese cars and always have. But others won't. That's life.

Didn't know that, cheers.

It's good but it seems full of more performance orientated motors than your run of the mill cars,

I've just had a quick flick through, personally it seems quite geared up towards the sporty side of Japanese cars rather than the less cooking models which i prefer, a nice feature on a Bluebird or Laurel would have been nice but of course that kind of thing doesn't sell magazines to the masses.

The reason i bought it was for the Honda Civic feature but i have to say I'm a little bit disappointed as it's the same feature i read a while back in Classic car monthly (i think) when KGF was still selling the car so it gave me nothing new to read. Sorry Ian. :(

Thanks folks. Getting the spread right with sporty vs non-sporty is always difficult. Advertising is essential, and you don't get many Nissan Bluebird specialists sadly. Modern Classics has the same balance to try and strike, and I've seen folk criticise that for much the same reason. That said, I reckon there's scope to adjust the mixture a bit if we get the go-ahead for further issues.

Re-use of material is another sadly essential ingredient at the moment, in order to keep costs down. Printing and distributing magazines is not cheap. While the same photos and original words are used, there will be subtle differences in the finished product anyway, due to differing editorial styles. It must be said, I had huge fun nailing this thing together, and not just because I got to drive some fancy stuff. Researching the Far East Invasion piece was very interesting. For me...

Although I have bought and enjoyed both Modern Classics and German Classics, I was going to give this one a miss until I read this, but now I will at least take a look at it. The only Japanese cars of any interest are IMO (of course) the performance ones, whether MX5 or NSX. I find the run of  the mill stuff bland white goods (from 15 years experience of the things in the family) and I think I'm in the majority in not wanting to read about them. RX7 or Nissan Bluebird? Not a difficult choice?

In any case, thanks due to Dollywobbler for taking on such a project. It must be difficult finding advertising with the relatively low numbers of the cars in existence next to MGBs or E30 BMWs, but we need the variety so I hope that it finds its niche. :)

For some reason Toyota have sent me their lame house magazine "this way"  subtitled "because there's always a better way".

There was this in it:

Got mine yesterday before I set off to the caravan  - Read a bit last night and I'll probably read a bit more tonight.

I have now received mine. Yes, this was pretty much the only reason for buying the Prelude.

Bumpage. I'm now preparing for Issue 2. If you have some stunning J-tin, let me know. It's content time!

Posted

Deffo not stunning but I've got an impreza that could just about merit a mention in a "readers rides" type section if you've nothing better.

Will be buying the next issue regardless, will we be able to preorder online?

Condition is not important as long as you love it. [email protected] if you'd like to drop me some details and pics. It will again be available online as well as on newsagents' shelves.

X Trail still a bit new unfortunately. Well on its way to Retro status though. I've always liked them...

Alas, it looks like the first issue has gone off sale now. There is a subs deal though. http://shop.kelsey.co.uk/subscription/RJP

Didn't you have a Sirion in the last issue? so you probably won't want a Storia so soon ... If I ever got it out of storage

An Autoshite Sirion was indeed in. It's a regular, quarterly magazine though, so I'll take some Storia action once it finally emerges. ;)

Interested in a bland-o-rama Almera feature? Maybe a head-to-head between the Almera/Pulsar; Suzuki Baleno; Mitsubishi Colt; Toyota Corolla; Honda Civic and a one-way trip to Dignitas, with the Dignitas trip being the clear winner?

Battle of the dull 90s japanese hatchbacks with additional points for giffer appeal.

I think the Almera is still a little new personally, but I really do fancy arranging some miserable head to heads. I've done Bluebird vs Monteo in the past. Really enjoyed that one.

As I stated previously my cars are either to old or to new for your retro specs,

Is it still going to be aimed at the more sporty side?

My Subaru MV 284 was available untill i took the engine / box out  a few days back.

Are you strictly car biased or is there room for light commercial suff ??

I didn't think the first one was aimed at the sporty side to be honest. I know we had a load of performance machines on the front cover, but I tried to include a pretty varied mix inside. Anything (within age) goes as far as I'm concerned. Even Datsun Stanzas.

Light commercial is fine, especially as the MV is car-based. In fact, a small pic of my friend's MV made it into the first issue.

Know you had the XJ Vs LS400 in the first issue, but I've a very late model LS400 (UCF20), not 100% perfect thanks to a dodgy repair in the past on the O/S/F wing (okay from 20 steps though) and it's not got the original exhaust on, but looks subtle enough. :)

Don't know if it'd be of any interest for the future?

Can't wait for issue two though!
