Bugger!

That means I need to go outside to it again this afternoon and add at least 10p's more value to it :D

What? Cabbage buying car from brother? this is an unexpected turn for the auction.

Could I buy this ZX in May for £225 to replace my last one ZX diesel estate - seen here on the A25 ? I need one to put my moped in and go see Bruce at Rock In Rio Lisboa 2016 then park in a back streets near Lisbon airport for my summer of  beach side derelict shed buying/living/fishing/planting chillies scenario.

Sounds like a plan, up to Will though, if he wins it. I called him at work to see what he's playing at, he said he's probably only keep it a couple months anyway. Also, I talked myself into going to A.R.S.E. rescue him tonight at 11pm after work!

Fuel starved at a guess. He brimmed it with veg, leaving no space for pez. It was a cold night.

It has a new filter, so I'm thinking tank strainer or restrictive fuel lines. Are there any other likely restrictions on a TUD5 106, such as hidden thimble gauzes etc?

that extra work on the brake lines values the car an extra 10p.

Hey, I fixed* that seatbelt last night too! Therefore someone needs to bid another 10p to keep the dream alive.

Skattrd isn't helping the case by saying he'll deliver this when he picks up the 340... today's 205 acquisition makes ten on fleet, all of which are currently broken. Can't afford another...

Thats exactly what mine did, but mine fired up, got down the road a bit then realised...

New filter and lots of dino juice fixed it

It is okay when it is warm, but keeps creating a vaccum in the fuel lines (before the filter) when cold, the amount of vaccum seems to correlate how cold the ambient temprature is.

It had a new filter before this tank of veg.

All this seems to point me to the possibility of a blocked tank strainer, or some kind of constriction in the fuel line before the filter.

I don't think the fuel is the problem, it is not even cold at the moment.

Oh yeah, there may be a real life non-shiter at my work (not me) in need of a car... So this could get a bit more lively

We have a 306 here with your chef's name on!

Most likely the tank strainer, could be a problem with the tank venting if it's quicker to vacuum when it's full up. Listen for a suck of air when the filler cap's removed, if so then a 2mm hole in it will sort things.

Try reversing the supply/return lines, if things improve then it's the strainer/supply line nipping somewhere.

Thanks. Tank strainer will be first port of call, though it may be messy taking the top off the tank when the fuel is still right up the neck...

Can confirm the ZX is a good tug.

Linton back to Malhamdale is a bloody long way with a 106 dangling off the end of a piece of hairy string.

Will was trying to bump start it all the way back behind the ZX, but it wouldn't stay running.

Once back in the shed, it was happy to run from a can of real actual dino juice, bypassing the tank, strainer, lines, grenade, filter and heat exchanger.

Having seen that, me and Will came in for another beer. He's confident he'll have it sweet as a nut in time to leave for work at 7.30am. Prime suspect: tank strainer.

Fucking pile of shit.

Fucking pile of shit.

That doesn't sound good at 4.38am - is it running yet in time for the deadline?

Oh dear.

ZX to the rescue once again?

Yes indeed.

He's gonna be a bit late.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to win this auction, I don't need the car and in reality I am just using it as a run-about till I get the 106 fixed today or tomorrow.

Therefore I will bid again to keep the auction running another 24 hours.

£200.20

As I am currently using the car (and the remaining 1/3 tank of fuel that was included in the auction); in order to attract someone to outbid me I will brim the tank with fuel before you take it.

There we have it, a ZX with 12 months MOT and a full tank of fuel for £200.30 - roll up, roll up!

Sounds like the chef doesn't like the look of it :D Can't say I'm surprised as he's normally in an Insignia.

TBH Will re veg, I wouldn't like to send anyone away with it to cruise the length of the M1 (or whatever) on a full tank of Cabbage_Juice, I'd say stick some pez and/or dino in it also. (And a new filter in the glove box too.)

The most I've had in it was about 70% wvo, 20% diz, 10% pez. Admittedly it seemed to love that ratio, not a cough, it ran like a dream up to Crail.

Oh, I found this last night:

Bidding against yourself in the hope you don't win? I don't think that's a thing... Looks like you bought it, bro!

Castro's: I think he'll take that deal!

I'm off outside to see him, the 106, and the ZX (I've missed it today, it's really won me over).

So, eventually Will had the 106 running again, but still lumpy and stalling, even after pumping out half the veg and adding fossil fuels.

P1040211_zpsb3k4fgoy.jpg

Finally, he thinks he's found the issue, it was dripping fuel out from around the top of the filter (which fits on much like an oil filter). And pulling air in there, of course. Two different new filters were the same. So he may have damaged the heat exchanger (where it mounts) when he did a filter swap last week.

So while he went to work tonight in the ZX, me and Flossy went up to the Bubbered Saxo and wrestled off the equivalent bit.

He'll be back soon to have another go at it.

106 success ðŸ˜

It was the fuel filter housing letting air in somewhere around the filter seal

Swapped the new thermostat and fuel filter housing onto it from the Saxo, and took it out for a spin and it runs great.

According to the internet these housings are a weakness for air leaks, and the extra suction running on thicker vegetable oil obviously brought the fault to the surface. I cant see how or why the original filter housing was letting in air, but all that matters is that the Bubbered Saxo one doesn't!

I have just been out for a good run in the snow, running the engine hard, and there is no sign of any faults.

Currently running around 75%veg, 15% diesel and 10% petrol, but I will likely take this up to 90 veg/10% pez for the rest of the winter.

Thanks to Joe and Autoshite for the help!
