Doesn't Start-let

Recommended Posts

So after excelling itself at Crail, the starlet had a ftp this morning.

Jumped in and got the click of dread. Battery volts are OK (12.4v and is a brand new battery) I can hear fuel pump running. So I think the starter maybe the issue

Any pointers on where to start looking?

Oh no ! What have you done to it !

I think it has had a starter at some point though i may be dreaming .

Id be checking earth wires

whack the starter with a hammer a couple of times then try again.

they get old and sticky, the hammer technique unsticks them.

Left car at home. So will have a look when I am back.

Will be submitting a warranty claim toot sweet :-)

Rear light warranty - once your rear lights are out of sight , so is your warranty.

Or 10,000 miles or tuesday whichever comes first

I thought the warranty was void due to racing ... there's evidence of racing on this site somewhere :o

Have you seen the video of Craig driving?

He wouldn't know a race if it dressed up in a big sign saying "I am a race"

Ah, well, I did take the long way home with it so might have used that up, plus you didn't say which Tuesday.

Hope it's an easy fix, it's quite an achievement managing to break one of these.

This, also connections ont' batt and starter. Likely to be a £0 fix.

Well back home... And starts first time !

Tried a few times and every time it starts straight away. Will see if I can check the connection tomorrow.

I hope my Toyotas don't decide to go all "French", what with so many PSA diesels kicking around here at Castle_Cleland.

I reckon it is pining for the roar of the track ....

Look..this bird wouldn't PINE if you...&c.

12.4 is a discharged battery. A full charge is 12.66. (6 cells @ 2.1V ea.) Boil it at 10A for a few hours. Then load-test it in 12 hours' time. Preferably when cold. Sounds like a bad cell...

Up on ramps today and looks like all connection are clean and tight.

I think it is the starter solenoid thing. Will have to try and get it off to have a look at it.

Not from top.

Looks like it has had a secondhand one previously

And that the CV joint has been spinning grease up it

Connection off and cleaned

It starts on button again. I will wait and see how we get on. Replacement looks an arse as it is tucked down under the inlet fannymould

Since cleaning and tightening everything it seems a happier car, so will put the warranty claim paperwork away :-)

Still love driving it.

Need to do something about the key. Getting harder to get into the car as it is quite worn.

How difficult is it to change the barrel for a new one? Are they shared with Toyotas?

Why do you need to lock it? Quit that nonsense.

See? Now it's fixed. :)

How very decadent!

But probably the right solution.

Posted

Probably overkill, but how about fitting one of the cheap ebay remote locking things to save using the key in the door?

I find this the solution to having multiple keys for cars (which bugs me).

If it was a daily it would make sense. Problem is that it will be parked up and battery disconnected when left in Scotland.

What a fucking idiot. Half asleep I got some tools out the back of the starlet, then closed the boot.

So I have locked the only set of keys in the starlet. Bollocks
