Popular Post DaveAspley Posted February 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 25, 2016 Tomorrow I am becoming the new owner of a fuel tanker magnet, dressing like Dennis Weaver and will end every journey pushing my car into a quarry. This is a '72 not a '70 so a few slight differences to the one in DUEL. Already been to the local Yank shop on the A5 and picked up a trolley load of service parts, gaskets and fluids to give it a full top to toe service , £160 Inc vat for the lot , they really are cheap as chips to maintain. It's packing a mighty 225ci (3.7 litre) Slant Six with probably 34bhp and a few holes in the boot floor to sort. mrbenn, The Moog, fotorabia and 50 others 53

danthecapriman Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Now that's a nice old thing. Always good to have more people with yanks on here! More pics please.
mrbenn Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Thats bloody brilliant, nice work! Love that film, got a slight shiver when I saw the pic. As said, moar pics pls
eddyramrod Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Oh and don't be too quick to diss the slant six, anyone. I've had one, in a 1983 Plymouth. So that was over 20 years after the engine first appeared. They're heroically tough old nails. Not Clarkson-pleasing fast, but at least the paper lad on his bike won't be overtaking you. And the truck will never catch you on the grade... mrbenn, danthecapriman and brickwall 3
darkfour Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Don't forget these need regular valve adjustment on them which you have to do with the engine running. It's a bit scary at first trying to measure and adjust the rocker arms while they bounce up and down but you soon get the hang of it. Details here Tune up guide here including a fuel line mod to improve hot starting. Carburetor operation and repair info here Bren, Bamboocarman, brickwall and 2 others 5
Rocket88 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Many years ago, had one of these, with slant six........surprisingly brisk, and nice to drive..............interior horrendously low rent, mind Dippy, eddyramrod, danthecapriman and 3 others 6

DaveAspley Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 The cracked dashtop is being attended to by a mate who trims classic cars , he did a Barracuda recently and luckily has a bit of the correct vinyl left. michael1703 1
eddyramrod Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTORE! Seriously, that's perfect as-is. It looks just how I remember seeing these things 30 years ago. I bet there'd be film/TV work for it if you were so inclined. Where are you?
DaveAspley Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTORE! Seriously, that's perfect as-is. It'll be staying just like this but serviced and fettled to make a good daily driver. Skizzer, eddyramrod and alf892 3
MrDuke Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 And an original right-hooker?! OPTIMO. Sorry, there's a weird reflection on the screen that looks just like the rim of a steering wheel. Of course, the actual steering wheel is also clearly visible, so I've no excuse really.
Supernaut Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 You, sir, WIN. MASSIVELY. That's properly awesome. I love Duel.

Bren Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The slant six in these is very good and has something of a following in the USA.

danthecapriman Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 That is a great movie. Not seen it for years. I loved that Peterbuilt, It looked pure evil! I'd love to have one now.
Guest bangerfan101 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Woolhouses American scrap yard had one of these in the yard for years. When old man Woodhouse died local youths wrecked it then the local Land pirates weighed it and nearly everything else in. I always thought they were Australian not yanks tho?
eddyramrod Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The Valiant was a US model in the beginning, but later generations were built in Australia and possibly South Africa, well past the replacement date for their shape in the US. I nearly bought one in Cyprus...
Guest Breadvan72 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 He can't catch you on the hill......Bloody lovely. On the 'grade, he can't catch you on the 'grade. mercrocker 1
