Any interest in this little project that has been cluttering my yard for too long?

 

It's a 2003 03 Mazda MX5 1.6 with 114k on the clock, not much in the way of history and it's definitely on its second engine (which had done 47k when it was fitted aparrently)

 

Rusty. Very. Needs work to both sills, crusty at the rear where they all go and also the front.

 

Power steering pipes are porous which was the reason it was laid up more than a year ago.

 

Runs and drives with a jump start (battery is shagged) but it definitely needs to be trailered or towed. Been standing for a while and is a bit mouldy inside as a result but it never used to leak so I think the roof will be salvageable. I don't possess the sparkly stick magic to get it going and just need rid

 

Located near Cheltenham.

 

£300 to a shiter but open to sensible offers / swaps / etc

Pretty rare colour I gather too, certainly a bit more striking than the usual silver/black

 

Crying shame for it to sit and continue to rot really - I ought to just strip it but I really can't be arsed / don't overly have the space

Looks far better than the slightly bent one I just bought for £300, but my one has a hard top I can flog. I might break it if you wanted the power steering pipes. I will have a better idea once I have picked it up. Probably worth bunging it on ebay as a classified ad. I am sure a trackday drift king will be more than happy to buy it.

If you do break it I might take you up on that, give it one last go at staying on the road under my ownership by finding out just how much welding it needs once it can get to the MOT station under it's own steam

 

Alternatively, buy this one and make one good car out of the two ;)

All you buggers with MX5s can you sort yourselves out, fit an auto box to said car and then sell it to me for peanuts? I am getting tired of looking....

I have seen a few, my mate had a low mileage minter that he sold to another friend of mine. The auto is a bit disappointing to be honest, but ok if you need one I guess.

I would very happily swap this for a complete 1.1 MPI Fiat FIRE engine preferably with wiring loom or an otherwise scrap apart from the engine mk2 Fiat Panda........

 

Next to no chance I guess :)

Still tempted to repair this - any availability of power steering pipes or reasonably priced sparkly stick gurus in the midlands / south west would be of great interest to me

This now has fully working power steering and isn't really for sale any more however

 

Anyone fancy welding it up for me? Needs new sills on both sides!

MX5 specialists usually charge fairly reasonable rates for sill work.

 

I suppose they've done the job so many times that they can do it blindfolded, with their right arm tied behind their back, in the time it takes their apprentice to put the kettle on and open a pack of digestives.

Have you checked the chassis rails at the front? Worst bit on a mk2 and a shit to repair well.

They're not brand new by any means but are still solid - some prevention will be in order once the rest is sorted
