Modern car advice! Any modern mechanics got any ideas? Now Sorted.

At the risk of sounding old fashioned and/or stupid, I did actually try this! Thinking maybe given it's low mileage it would just be suffering from a bit of lack of use. It did nothing.

Which does lead nicely on to another complaint about these things. What the fuck is that stupid fuel filler design about?

There's no actual fuel cap, you open the little door and can see the opening for the petrol pump nozzle. Seemingly there's a locking mechanism inside this to close off the access to the tank. It opens up when the cars unlocked and the the pump nozzle inserted. It certainly makes putting redex etc in more difficult as most of the first attempt ended up pissing straight out through the tank breather onto the floor! Another fine solution to a problem that didn't exist. Wtf is wrong with a lockable cap?

There is, or should be a little plastic nozzle thing beside the toolkit, for this very issue- My Volvo has the same system. It's much better when you think about it. Renault had a similar set up on the Megane Arse.

I think I read in the handbook something about that little spout pipe funnel thing but there's no sign of it so I'd guess it's been lost.

I did try shoving the plastic nozzle pipe from a Gerry can spout in there, which fits well but still won't allow the thing inside to open and fluid to pass through. God knows how you'd manage if you did need to use a Gerry can to fill up for whatever reason. I might try to get a new one of those spout things.

^^ yeah right! I think I'll be fine without. Or I'll get one from a scrappy.

Really disappointed that this has been resolved without a fight or setting anything alight. Reasonable sellers piss me off.

Incidentally, you can turn off an EML for some faults and it won't come back on straight away. I had the dealer turn all the warnings off on my Focus and then whammed it down to a WBAC-clone who gave me below book price, I assume they treat every purchase as potentially fucked.

Btw, it was an 09 plate TDCI with DPF faults so not the Focus on question! It did take nearly 6 months to get retaxed though....

Oh, and I also treated a petrol station forecourt to a dose of injector cleaner once. Stupid filler neck.

If you want, gimme a few mins and I'll go out in the street and start something for you, then I'll take a few pics of the body and get them up!

I'm actually a bit surprised this went as easily as it did. If only all car sellers were like this.

I only wanted a small fire. You're on about it ending up with a corpse!

I've never found Redex or the like makes a jot of difference on an EFi car. The ECU probably just adjusts the timing or whatever to compensate for it.

Aha young whippersnapper. Redex used to give the full on James Bond- squirt some fairy liquid over the car, half a cupful down the carb, start and 3 fire engines would turn up and powerwash it for ya.
