Spotted at Morrisons in Derby, looked in really good condition. 20/4/93 so very early. It's a 1.8 GLX, nice model. Is it still possible to buy a brand new set of those amazing pre-'96 mk1 GLX trims anymore? Nice example, very well finded! Popsicle 1

I was thinking Ghia because of the trims and front fogs. It would be a 1.8 petrol. Quite liked the trim in those, it was really hard wearing as well.

RoverFolkUs Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 @egg Your Mondeo seems to have some fans https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMFBNTvBL/ Someone in the comments said they remember seeing it everywhere when new. Could be complete bollocks, but who knows! Vantman 1

I actually quite liked the wacky stripey upholstery these had! The reg doesn't come up on any checks so could be on private plates now, but you never know. Saying that, I think the last time I saw an early Si was about 12 years ago. It was Java Blue, had the optional bodykit and 16 inch wheels (what option pack was that called again!) and was in really nice condition. It was L540MHJ (reg'd November 1993 so should that count as an early one?). It was very sadly being broken for parts soon after I spotted it, I was absolutely gutted. On the Si subject, and out of curiosity, I do wonder how many Citrine Yellow Si's are now remaining? I don't think I've ever seen any in that colour on a K-reg. I think they were only ever L's and M's if not later! And, apparently, for reasons unknown, Citrine Yellow was also offered on Mondeo LX's as well, according to a May 1994 Ford brochure I remember reading back in the day. I've definitely never seen one of those. I'm just curious, has anyone here ever heard of a Citrine Yellow Mondeo LX? Or even seen one? AnnoyingPentium, warren t claim and Wibble 3

Seems weird that it doesn't show up on tax or MOT, but carbaba recognizes it without mentioning a private plate or being scrapped 🤔, But it says on the post that photo was taken in 1993 so I suppose anything could have happened to it between then and now. It appears to be on its original keeper as well! I've got a screenshot from carbaba, will post it up when the forum software permits warren t claim, egg and MantaGTE85 3
warren t claim Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 There was definitely something "Project Drive" about the Mk2 Mondeo compared to the Mk1. The Mk2 didn't seem as well built and lacked toys like remote boot release on the lower models.

Like the upholstery in the mk2 Aspen, LX, and later Zetec versions that felt cold and hard compared to the nice, soft 'Stage' upholstery in the low-level mk1's. And too much unpainted, creaky dash fittings in the mk2's as opposed to the classier satin metallic grey dash fittings in the mk1's. And don't get me started on those bumpers. More brittle than Austin Montego ones in Winter. warren t claim 1

I've got a screenshot from carbaba, will post it up when the forum software permits Ooooh K616PHS is a weird one and its not alone either in that reg block! K612PHS (an escort) is exactly the same, in that both produce a positive result but with not really any DVLA data in them both are VIN Number "UNKNOWN"! with no colour data or any other such data, just a Reg number, make model and date of first registration thats it K621PHS (an Orion) is very similar, but I DO get a VIN number for it at least but its not a full 17 digit number id expect from a vehicle of this age BTW @egg I was chassis number bashing from K606PHS, in the hopes to see if I could find K616PHS's number, still researching that but just now I came across K27USD which is SORN!, perhaps one for your list? although its not had a keeper change or even fresh V5 issued since 2002 MantaGTE85, egg and RoverFolkUs 3
MantaGTE85 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Still on the slightly oddball Mondeo topic, Mk1 Mondeo automatics were quite short-lasting if my memory serves. Are any of those still around now? Also, are there any 2.5 24V bASe versions still left I wonder? warren t claim 1

Don’t know about the 24v, perhaps how many left will tell you, it wasn’t initially called the V6.

Yeah, they started de-contenting the Mondeo from the start - base got 7 speed wipers in first year, dropped afterwards, plastic surround for the boot release removed etc, penny pinching stuff. warren t claim 1
sierraman Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 The last Mk2 used to rot like the fruit from ALDI. Remember seeing a 4x4 in a breakers years ago, the floor pan and boot floor were different. It was an odd one, it had the full RS kit on plus some Ford Recaro seats that I’ve never seen since. At the time I just ragged the spoiler off it, assuming it had suffered some driveline failurevor the clutch went. Obviously years ago on a 10-12 year old Mondeo if the clutch went it was scrap fodder.

Obviously years ago on a 10-12 year old Mondeo if the clutch went it was scrap fodder. Indeed. I'm sure I started seeing 1993 Mondeos start to show signs of rust around 2001/2002, first areas to go were the rear arches and sill lips I think. Very hard-used examples would rust in the door bottoms as well at around that time. They were definitely very solid, well-made cars in the '90s. But late mk2's started rusting in the same areas circa-2005/6, but the rot seemed to spread at a much quicker rate once it set in, just like early Mazda 6's did. And 2006-on mk1 Kas. It was like D-for-Doom The Sequel. egg 1
