DodgeRover Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Sounds like something is trying to make it do it's own thing

Dave_Q Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Not terrible, a few hours with some brake pipes and/or a wire brush and some grease and you're sorted.
Kiltox Posted October 22, 2016 Author Posted October 22, 2016 It was tested at the same place as the Scenic - I think they like doing brake pipes because it had a similar number of advisories
Kiltox Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 So this is on its way Along with these to seal the hole in the pristine* new sump It's not dead yet!
SiC Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Fingers crossed this fixes it! Not much left to fix now... Only other thing it could be is a dodgy wiring loom.
SiC Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I assume the alternator isn't putting out a silly high voltage and fritzing things?
Kiltox Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 That thought did cross my mind - they're very hard to get a hold of and expensive when they do become available
Kiltox Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Alternator isn't connected at the moment - had some slight belt issues It was fine voltage wise before I took it apart though
Kiltox Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 ECU set isn't happening - seller is an arsehole and has cancelled my order because I won't provide him with photos of every part to verify compatibility (which would be futile given how much of this car isn't original anyway)

Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Picked this up today It's a bit fucked though dave21478, rainagain, Lord Sterling and 5 others 8
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 My basically brand new Volvo has a few* issues which I'll get onto later - it was only £99 though! Shep Shepherd, nacho man and cort16 3
mrbenn Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Really like those S60's. Will look forward to hearing what's wrong with it!
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 OK, here we go SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT message on display as shown - yet the red airbag light isn't on (it does work) Handbrake is there for show Rough idle and intermittent EML Constant hissing from the brake servo unless the pedal is pressed - could be causing the running problems due to a vacuum leak. Brakes work fine though Steering wheel controls not working including cruise control Possible dodgy wheel bearing or two Power steering fluid low and pump whining scdan4 1
dollywobbler Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 These are one of the best-looking saloons of all time, especially pre-facelift, with headlamp wipers. Will be interesting to see how it does.
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Brake servo looks to be a massive PITA to change on RHD cars though
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 I'll check it over of course but my Google fu reveals it's usually the servo itself that leaks
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 This one doesn't. So I'm guessing I'm in for a treat once I fix the air leak and make the dashboard less festive!
NorthernMonkey Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Crap handbrake will be down to a detached shoe lining...change them ASAP as they rattle around and if they lodge themselves in the wrong position, they'll take the backplate out... Kiltox 1
NorthernMonkey Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 SRS light could be on because the centre console where the stereo/heater controls live has been unplugged without the battery being disconnected first. Very common and will need resetting by either VIDA or a Solus type scanner. If you were nearer etc * Sheefag and Kiltox 2
NorthernMonkey Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Power steering fluid...make sure you top up with the correct synthetic green liquid. Using the red stuff will cause it to leak badly over time. Kiltox 1
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Might be dead in the water already - just found a service receipt from a Volvo dealer last year indicating low compression on cylinder 5 Funnily enough the seller didn't mention that....
NorthernMonkey Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 As you've correctly diagnosed, hissing brakes are down to a fubbared servo. Very common on S80s, not as much ch do on S70/V70s though not unknown. Kiltox 1
Kiltox Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Likely to cause issues with running due to the unmetered air?
Sheefag Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 SRS light could be on because the centre console where the stereo/heater controls live has been unplugged without the battery being disconnected first. Very common and will need resetting by either VIDA or a Solus type scanner. If you were nearer etc * Exactly this happened on my V70T5.
