He thinks battery has died and doing starter motor click of death. Spare battery would be great.

Thanks. I hope it means he is underway again rather than walking to a telephone on a stick.

I am now officially not drenched on the side of the motorway anymore.

This was a dead disappoint occurrence but I'm sure things will look brighter in the morning.

It's doubly disappoint 'cos the car was behaving faultlessly right up until the moment it wasn't.

Many thanks to Barrett for the kind offer to drag himself a fair old distance North to attempt helpage and to The Moog, thanks for being a massive help from the other end of the country and many, many apologies for not being able to complete the mission.

I'll give it my best shot at spannering it back to life in the morning once I'm warmer and drier.

A motorway, earlier.

I think moog said a while back it was putting 13.8 V into the battery without smartcharge connected, mustn't be enough with lights etc on

Pointless smart charge eh !

To be fair a normal alternator would have been fine. :-)

Fingers crossed it will just be simple fix.

IT LIVES ! ! ! !

I charged the battery up a bit and it fired up first time.

I haven't got a multimeter to check the alternator but considered sticking my tongue on the alty positive and my ballsack on a head bolt to check for tingling. In the end I just ran the battery down until it barely turned over enough to start, ran it for a couple of minutes and hey presto, upon restart it cranked over like a boss.

I think there was an issue with the loom breaking down to the smart charge alternators which could be fixed by buying a piece of transit connect loom from fords ? may be worth investigulating

So basically we need to pack a bunch of citrus fruits or potatoes in case of breakdown ...

Episode 2 of the epic chod delivery.

Alien abduction of El Bucket +  the LPG powered pram is my best guess but the dregs of last night bottles flavoured with citrus erxtract may have wiggled my thoughts.
