FAO Pineapple fans - LHD T4 value?

Hi all,

I've been looking at the prices of VW vans in .de and they seem to be mega cheap compared to here.

I can haz plan to fly/drive one home and sell for $$$.

Like this for example:

$_57.JPG

http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=219169048&isSearchRequest=true&scopeId=C&zipcode=&makeModelVariant1.makeId=25200&makeModelVariant1.modelId=48&pageNumber=1

1100 euro! That's like 800 real pounds.

Am I right in thinking something like this would sell for £3k plus once home and registered?

I'm looking at the Multivan as not many were sold in rhd so OMGRARE, has factory big foldy bed so GR12 for camper/dayvan/sceneage/etc.

I'm aware of the ins and outs and costs involved in export plates / fuel / chunnel / registration etc, but I would think worst case scenario something like that would owe me £2k max back home and registered.

So, are I mental, or should I chuck some of my savings into a moderately interesting collection thread? They're doing f.all in the bank.

[iNSERT JOKE ABOUT RENAULT 20S AND TERRORISTS HERE]

Thanks.

Funny you should bring this up as I was thinking the exact same thing, I would end up keeping it though as it would be more comfortable to sleep in when it breaks down than a merc,

I must admit to being slightly* inspired by your recent caper Mr Baldy.

I would be aiming not to keep it myself, we need 3 point seatbelts for the kids and the multivans in my price range only have lap belts on the rear facing seats.

The later T4s and T5s have 3 point belts but you ain't getting them for £1000 or so.

If my plan worked, once I was rich* from repeating a few times I'd get a late T4 or a T5 for myself.

I don't think a sheddy LHD petrol T4 like that would be worth £3000 here, maybe if you tidied it up, slammed it on hideous RS6 replica alloys and inserted references to surfing and festivals in the ad.

Brother and a mate have done this, they bought three LhD California's to sell , one of them a Synchro.

By the time you factor in expenses, there's not loads of money in them , I think they've sold one so far and made about a grand profit* . But they were away in Germany for 3 days- so not earning and spent another couple of days fucking about with it registering, MOTing cleaning etc. so if you put a value on time..........

They've still got two , including the Synchro which is Pogweasel Pink and very early. I think the interior needs refitting where they had a Ducatti from Austria in the back- now, bikes, that's where the money is to be made.

A grand profit would suit me just fine, any sort of profit would be good.

Am currently a student with a part time low wage job so my time is worth between £0 and £8 an hour.

Yup a grand is not to be sniffed at and I wouldn't consider taking my time into account anyway as a couple of days in euro land is fun and we all know fun is not free.

That one in the pic is OMG Rat look,so is worth eleventymillion £££££. I looked into this but from Eastern Europe and it's doable if you grab a bargain and combine it with a holiday.

Or just slap a Caravelle badge on the back, it doubles the price here (even on shagged out old builder's vans  )

Nail on the head there, filter out prospective punters down to hipster types who will blindly pay over the odds, and might I suggest a blowover in some embarrassingly lurid shade, a few of them would fund a spraybooth.

Hmm.

Maybe the first one I posted wasn't the best example, how about this one?

Dizzler, interior looks good, looks rust free, 1500 euro.

I've been looking into moving to Amsterdam to study today. I know this little beauty is in Germany but looks just the job for cutting around on the continent.

I search LHD commercials in Gumtree/Ebay/Autotrader looking for export oppotunities and I've noticed LHD T4s get listed cheaply quite often, half the time LWB petrol ones on ex-commie country plates. But they stay listed at that seemingly low price for quite a while and they are usually aimed at the export-to-Africa-market, which suggests that they don't turnover that well and you might as well send them straight to West Africa from Germany/Benelux (as literally thousands of people are doing) and cut out the middle man. Here's a couple of cheapies:

While we are on the subject, this place is a great day out for LHD inclined shiters:

My T4 was £1500, because it is a 'sans turbot' 1.9 and has 180k on it. It has virtually no rust though, only thing I've found is a couple of 50p sized holes in the inside of the sills under the doors.

Looking at your van I'd say it's further gone than that as you can see the rust stains on the outside.

You'd get about £3k for a 1.9turbot with less than 100k and in really good condition but they are very rare now.

Might be better off trying to source a pez...LEZ and all that.

This is ace. Exactly what I'd like to be driving if I was living the life I've been thinking about in Amsterdam. Enough space to get a kip but enough space for sound, visuals and lighting gear for my fantasy life studying, freelancing and performing.

I worked with an artist recently who had a very nice old SWB Sprinter bus on French plates. There's a lot more cool looking low spec light commercials from the european manufacturers on the road on the continent than there are here.

I looked into it too, buying from Poland or somewhere like that, tarting them up and selling either here or in UK as Day van surf bus YO, but struggled to justify it financially. There are several standard vans already here at cheap prices that dont seem to sell well. As Laquer Peel suggested, spraying it Kawasaki green and lowering it on 18" ebay Audi wheels, then throwing an Ikea couch in the back would be the way to do it, but the added costs take a massive bite into the profits and I reckoned it might just about break even.

Parking it in Amsterdam costs more per night than a decent hotel room, though.

Quite a few flats I've been checking out mention off street parking funnily enough. I had been looking at some neighbourhoods further out from from the city centre, and even places like Haarlem and Zandvoort as a cheaper alternative, but still in commuting distance. Parking in the centre would probably be a nightmare, agreed.

Back on the subject of T4s, this one is a bit too scruffy to warrant nearly 2 grand on German plates being sold in the UK. Too pricy for me. I would probably be looking at SWB vans in reality if I ever got round to buying one. I'm not sure if I'd find a LWB van too cumbersome and too difficult to find enough room to park.

Where is the best place to look for T4s online in the Netherlands? Marketplaats I know already.

Sold my 1996 213000 mile 1900 non turbo for a grand in may. Owned for 6 years and not in bad condition apart from gearbox about to implode.

Advertised it on Facebook and Gumtree, the usual swop for play station and games  mate and will you take £500 tonight.

A dealer drove down from Warrington and paid me the asking price.
