Hold me close tiny Datsun

Due to some boring work relating stuff I got an email today from Russia and at the bottom of the email was this logo.

Now I knew Nissan has discussed bringing the Datsun brand back but I didn't realise they'd actually done it. A bit of googling brought up their website this the inspiring tag line of.

I was immediately attracted to the Nissan go due to it resplendant JRG paint work.

Of course the real magic happens on the interior that makes the interior of a 1991 LDV 400 look like luxury motoring.

Realizing the spirit of the risers, Datsun GO+ was developed as a cozy, movable family lounge. The design is modern, with a sleek, dynamic silhouette and strong shoulder line. The clean body styling makes it a crowd standout.

To be fair I have seen some minimalist lounges on grand designs where they've just got a concrete bench in their living room that looks similarly luxurious to this.

I love the main console that just has a speedo with some kind of third party barometer thing in it for fuel and the like.

I'm being a bit hard on the GO+ the other models look like basic european hatchbacks. Very similiar to the Dacia's you used to see in spain 10 years ago and Nissans sold and imported by Arnold Clark in 2013.

Nissan have come out yesterday and said they won't be selling the Datsun in eastern europe but I guess with Dacia doing so well you might be able to be a riser and own a GO+

bloody hell that is PROPER grim.

like been in a gulag grim.

and having seen the comical crash test results of some of these russian cars, i wonder how this would fair in a prang.

As it's right hand drive already does that mean there is a chance it might come out here?

Oh and what's the spirit of the risers supposed to be?

I wonder what 'The First Badge Of The Risers' means...?

Sounds like a good strapline for Viagra.

I've no idea but it's a theme. This is actually from the Indian site the unlucky Russians don't get the GO+

Looks like it has a holder for your PHONE TUNEZ rather than a stereo.

I think the handle next to the gear stick is the choke. I think the Saloon is based on the Tilda, which we never got on the GB.

I like the way they have a mobile phone/holder to make it look like it all snazzy and up-to-date.

theres a few tiidas round here they all seem to be scot reg with a shark stickers - come over from ireland

that datsun looks like a bad chinese copy of something j obsolete

I thought everyones favourite Arnold Clark sold them?!

http://www.motors.co.uk/car-39248751/sp

We never officially got them. Uncle Arnold bought about 100,000 of them from Ireland and knocked them out for 9 grand new much to Nissan's disgust I'd imagine.

There's pissing thousands of them in Glasgow.

Well, these can't be any better/worse than the C1 I had last week.

I will admit something terrible. I went to fill it up with diesel before it went back as it sounded, felt and was as gutless as an old diesel (so, QED...). Got as far as sticking the nozzle in before I noticed the little green surround...

THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR.

The Tiida had really sweet, ruched leather door cards with padded arm rests. Verdict: PLUSH

Awesome to see Datto returning!

I too knew it was in the pipeline, but never knew anything was decided, yet.  :-D

That's the handbrake I think, it has a bench seat so they've put it up there so as not to defeat the point of the bench seat.

Some Tiidas did find their way over here (from Republic of Ireland I think?) - I regularly see a saloon one in the same colour as the one in the pic above but with wheeltrims - it's a private hire taxi. Has parking sensors and the owner's stuck the taxi plate over one of them :roll:

So, here's a thing (and apologies if someone's explained this at length before) but how come the ROI get these and the UK never sees hide nor hair of them? It can't be as fundamental as 'they'd never sell', right?

probably the case, remember in this country its gotta have the right (german) badge on it else its not going to sell, apparently.

I've no idea what the rest of the range is based on. The mi-DO has stout styling, which sounds like what my mum used to say to me when I was buying new trousers for school. It's okay cort-JNR you're not fat you've just got stout styling.

If you've ever looked through a brochure for a new car it's all xenon this and dynamic that. It's got the latest DAB touch screen windscreen wipers  with bi-xenon heated seats. We yearn for simpler times. It's okay datsun has you covered.

They must use 90s Volkswagen technology as my 1.6 Polo develops 75 bhp. :-D

About as aerodynamic as a moscow apartment block. The apartment block probably has a higher top speed.

The Go has been around a while, hasn't it? Essentially a cheapened (how?!) Sandero or Sandero-style treatment of a Micra (the booted one being very Logan-esque). But they showed a lovely concept thing a while back, RWD 2-door retro saloon. That, and maybe rebirth of the 240Z as a Renault Wind (but RWD) and lower-placed 370Z coupé/roadster would given Nissan a really good halo boost. GT-R seems to have dropped off the radar for 'people in t'pub' interest, and the 350/370 are a bit too blurred, neither one thing or the other.

Next generation is going to want to be as far away from Qasquai and Juke as possible. Just like 1980s ended up with people "not wanting those rusty old Datsuns".

Yeah, well, my 1.3 Mazda had 192bhp!

In this case, I'd say it's possibly Renault who would block it. But if Sanderos are sold in Ireland, then possibly not. Snob affect then.

DATSUN - YOU WANT CHEAP CAR WE GIVE YOU CHEAP CAR

I like* how car makers have been trying to break the Chinese market with these cars and now are trying to sell them back to us - probably successfully. They're horrid - did Protons look this bad in 1991? I'm not sure they did.

I reckon apart from the ground clearance these look way more like most modern cars than a Proton did back then, which looked just nasty to my eyes!
