Peugeot 205 - FIXED :)

A decent settlement has been agreed and I'm happy to say I'm keeping the 205 :-D

Obviously rummaging round eBay and Scumtree for replacement parts, but just thought I'd ask here on the off-chance that someone has the bits I need sat in the back of their garage...

Fire off a PM to Explosive_Cabbage on here (my bro).

Remind him he has the green STDT tailgate here, maybe others, and I bet he has some spare rear bumpers.

As Joe said I have a STDT boot lid, but unfortunately no rear bumpers as I am particularly proficient and crashing 205s, even backwards. I can vouch for the £30 plastic replacement bumpers on eBay, the are a good fit and don't fade.

£20 for boot lid

That'll teach me not to check the thread before I turn in for the night  Thanks for the kind offer chaps, but I got word of one in a yard about an hour from here and went straight out this morning.

Unfortunately the mission didn't go exactly to plan... after I'd specifically asked them to check the items for damage (they'd told me they were fine) I arrived to find another car on top of the 205, the rear axle of which had handily destroyed the top edge of the tailgate  Got a bumper though, so not a total waste of time.

As I was out and already half-way through my day off I rang round a load of other yards and turned up one near Burnley that had a couple of 205s in, one of which had a decent tailgate. So I got sorted for £55 all in, but paint may be required...

Yes, the poor old sod had to go and fetch its own parts - there's no way this was going to fit in the 500! Naturally I took all necessary steps to ensure its complete legality* before attempting this mission:

It's too dark to start doing anything now, but I'm off at the weekend so if you can stand the excitement I shall share the joy of fixage with you via this thread.

Glad you're sorted out, anyhow.

You were luck there not to mash the boot sill! Bolt-on repairs FTW.

It did get a bit bent, but it was nothing that a large hardwood block and delicate application of a sledgehammer couldn't fix :-D

It's going to be pissing down here all weekend which, coincidentally, is the time I have to fix this up. So as I had a few hours before work, I thought I might as well make a start. I must have done a reasonable job of straightening the boot sill because the new tailgate closes and locks fine.

I'll tidy this up as best I can, it'll never be properly straight again but no-one will ever see it anyway. The van I got this tailgate from had just had the wiring lopped off so I used crimp connectors to attach it to the car. Everything works except for the central locking, cos the new tailgate doesn't have provision for it. It only ever worked on the front two doors anyway, so it's not like I'll miss it. I promise I will wash all the scrapyard moss and shite off at some point.

Swapped the locks over, which takes about 10 seconds, so now it's 100% secure* once again. And here is where we are:

Next job (which I suspect will be easier said than done) is to get the washer feed through the body of the tailgate and connect it back up to the nozzle. And then there'll be the joy of removing all those seized bumper fastenings...

That's enough for today - shower, dry clothes and off to work!

Concours??!

I really must get round to doing this on mine... I've only had it nearly two years...

I was just following the sat nav by that point, but it would have been out that way, yes. It was called Chris Watson & Son IIRC. I seem to remember it was a van that it came from, but it had been a long day, so I could be wrong on that!

Yes, that's the place!

Will's in there at least every other week, usually nicking the cam off an XUD Sherpa, or something else to make his 205 just a bit more mental.

Ha! Small world innit. They were nice lads, v. helpful. After the first place dropped me in the shit I'd just Googled 'breakers yard lancashire' on my Chinese smartphone, determined to go home with all the bits I needed to fix the car. No-one else had a thing, so I was well surprised when they said they had a couple I could look at :-D

BTW Mr Cabbage - was the thing I took it from a van, or am I just puddled?

Nah, he just recognised the tailgate from seeing the van at Salterforth - he knows their stock well!

Saturday morning and, unexpectedly, it's not raining! Bonus.

War is declared on the old bumper, much easier to get at the mounting bolts now.

Near side bracket needs to come off and go in the vice. Extra shite points for saving the dealer sticker 8)

Collateral damage: I put the grinder through the number plate lamp wiring

And this is what it looked like by Pie O'Clock

Not very glamorous, I know...

Just the last few odds and sods now. One of the bumper mounting points broke when I was cutting the old bolt off, so I had to do a qualitee bodge:

The chrome strip went back on and neatly covered this up :)  All that was left to do was Araldite the stray bits of number plate back on and we're good to go.

Paint will happen sometime or other (at which point that spoiler will come off) but being back on the road will do me for now :)

Excellent cost effective repair! All you need to do now is kidnap Trigger and employ his rattle-can wielding skillz on the boot lid and you'll be sorted :)

For no reason at all, I really really like the look of that now.  To the point where i have to say FIRST DIBS if you're moving it on at some point...

Love 205s...

Good work hey!

Cheers! I will keep you in mind if that does happen, probably not before next spring though as I bought it to use when the weather's too crap to ride scootahs. I do have the inexplicable urge to own a CJ though, so if one of those turns up for not much dosh, you never know!

Looks good. Leave the boot white. There was a small boxy car that always came with a black boot, no idea what it was so this is the 205 version.

I briefly owned a White-Hen in the late 90's. Great little tinbox.

Lovely repair at minimal cost. It's the Autoshite way!

Please don't paint that.

It looks class as it is.

For some reason I also want to buy it.

It was a pristine 1.7 NA Junior Diesel 3 door when it came in, some parts that soon get lost/broken have been nicked off it for mine. Totally rust free and only about 50 odd thousand miles!
