I've got quite a few examples in my old brochures of BL's budget not stretching far enough to take new photos when they've introduced model changes. This is the best example:

Old:

New:

Minus vinyl roof, now two-tone red/orange with a terrible "paint" job over the old coachline.

New bootlid, foglamp, black trim? A cheaper dashboard clock perhaps?

Awesome retro photoshopping. There's loads of shit examples of this. My favourite is the one from the Rover Commerce (25 van) brochure where the rear door and window on a 5 door is airbrushed out.

Head restraints and a new fuel flap too. Surely it would have been simpler to just take new pictures.

Did the Mk3 not have the stalks the opposite way round?

They would probably have had trouble getting one out to take pictures, if there was a strike on at the time. (sorry BL stereotype number 4 in operation)

Yes, on the Mk3 Allegro. I'm not sure about the revised VDP.

But they didn't have photoshop back then.

You'd have had a chap taking pics of a clock n a head rest from the same angle

(& he couldn't check he'd got it right until he'd developed n test printed it)

Then He'd have to piss about in the dark room, masking bits off and double exposing

until he went purple

F**k me, they've put it on the cover too... No wonder they went down the toilet

Somewhere I've got a 1980 Renault range brochure that has headlamp wipers drawn on the Renault 30TX with a pen, amongst other things.  It's especially obvious because the actual photo is out of focus.  It's hilarious, but sadly I can't find it.

Amongst my attic stash is a hilarious 1974 MG brochure where all the rubber bumpers are airbrushed on.

I am bloody annoyed.

Somewhere...I KNOW I have a publicity shot of an Austin 2200 where the Austin or Morris bit on the badge has been airbrushed out so they could use it for either car.  Can't bloody find it at the mo...

It's not lost the vinyl roof in the first one, it's just red! There's no reflection

I thought the vp died when the Allegro3 was launched.

Sorry back to the topic.

Yes, I think so.

*Edit - I have an old price list from May 1981 and the Allegro 3 and VDP are both listed. The VDP 1.7 Auto cost more than an Ital 2.0HLS Estate Auto, and the 1.5 more than a Maxi HLS!

^ Yes, reversing lights were indeed a bit posh in 1974.  But I'm still ROFLing at 'immensely rigid body structure', and the one I had was a GT.  Also 'unadulterated' is a bit rich, given that they'd just slapped those bumpers on and messed up the handling by giving it an inch or so lift.

That's a magnificent bit of retro potatoshopping, some weird cartoon-photo mashup.

Can't believe it's cheaper to get an artist to spend a day doing that, than just pop down to the carpark and photograph Julie from Accounts flirting with the bloke who empties the bins stood next to the MD's wife's SherpaCoupe.

Also, that numberplate is an MOT fail.

Because new, square lights?

You can see where they've scribbled with a Biro over the old indicators in the bumpers.
