The Mrs has just seen this and gone Ooooooo .

There's 1 around here in a real bright green colour that gets spotted every now and then, but always going the other way

It's for Einspritzung or injection.

That makes sense, although feel a bit cheated now liked the idea of a carlike this being an economy version.

That's what the other half says as well.

She keeps saying its her car for next summer, after I've done the work on it!

Had a day to go over the car and sort some bits,

1st up was a coolant flush as the water in the tank was rather orange with rust, looks like it had only been filled with water.

2 hours of putting gunk in and flushing through and I'm happy the cooling system is in good order.

Next I changed the distributor cap, rotor arm and plugs the cap and rotor were in a shocking state pointing to lack of maintenance but with them replaced the lumpiness has gone from the engine.

I also did some cosmetic bits and put on a pair of amber indicators I think these make a rather nice difference to the front end.

She nearly ran me over in that Audio cabrio once. It was outside the cement works in Fulham (no, really).

Good luck with the collection. Top tip: leave the handbrake alone.

Er.. why were you both in that location at the same time...? Sounds like something out of Viz..

Today I got the biggest problem of the car looked at.

Having a roof on a convertible that doesn't work is kind of pointless so spent sometime investigating.

The roof compartment wouldn't open to stow away the collapsed roof' it needs a number of components to work together to make it open and somewhere there was a broken part.

I stripped half the interior to have a look and found the handbrake switch was broken, so I wired it up and hoped for the best. Still no joy so I took the roof compartment button apart to find a loose wire, held it against the broken terminal and heard a click, so fully enthused I enlisted a junior Crusty to hold the roof and pop up it came.

with the roof folded back I got some sun light in the car for the first time.

To say I was chuffed is an understatement!

Its only a temporary fix as need parts but its fixed none the less.

Good work!   I didn't particularly have these on my radar before this thread started.   It's not on my want list yet but it is a hmmmmm.    Cracking colour, too and yes the amber indicators are progress.

Last night as it was pissing down with rain I decided that instead of sitting in the warm and dry I would go and scrub the soft top of the car.

Grabbed a bottle of all purpose cleaner from the cupboard and a nail brush and went at it for the next hours.

The horrible green shit that scrubbed out was something else! 20 years of accumulated gunge, bird shit, tree sap and whatever else.

Mmmm green!

Today with the sun shining I got to clean the original wheels I got last week.

A few curb marks but generally in good condition although really heavy with brake dust got the cleaner out and jet washed them.

Most of it came off but 1 wheel stayed a bit dirty but a huge improvement.

Decided to put them on the car but fate intervened when I realised that 1 of the bolts on each wheel was a security bolt and I had no key to undo them!!! Grrrr.

So I resorted to the knuckle draggers hand book and hammered a smaller socket over the top. After some gentle pressure the bolt came undone, luckily in the past someone had put some copper slip on so they weren't seized.

New wheels on.

Nice Audi, well bought. I do think these are good looking cars and kingfisher blue suits them very well. Cabrios are the work of Satan of course, but otherwise I very would. And the 2.0E clearly marks you out as a WINNER.

Er.. why were you both in that location at the same time...? Sounds like something out of Viz..

Much of my life in the 1990s was like something out of Viz. If you must know, as far as I remember I was walking home (which was next door to the Lot's Road power station) from work (next to Stamford Bridge) via Sainsbury's. The People's Princess was driving with mildly immoderate haste to the Harbour Club (=posh gym) which is between Sainsbury's and the cement works.

There really is a cement works. It's on Townmead Road, by Wandsworth Bridge, and is now entirely surrounded by million pound one-bed flats.

After looking at Taff waterproof the soft top of his MGF using Nikwax and it went milky I decided to follow the of fellow shiters and us Fabsil.

Today seemed a good day for it  was windy but dry and the fabric had dried nicely, I got home at lunch and opened the can to find it must be good stuff as it smelled nice and fumey with flammable warnings on the can.

A quick clean with a lint roller and out came the brush, on it went and left to dry.

It was then I discovered a flaw in an otherwise perfect plan, Fabsil needed 6 hours to dry, I looked at the sky and did some made up calculations technical equations and accounting for the wind I though it would all be good in about 4 hours.

30 mins later standing at the window with a cup of tea and it starts raining and continues for 2 hours bollocks!!

Roof sodden again so will have to let it dry again and re-coat.

its not really my thing, but that aldi looks so so much better with the orange front indicators fitted, and sat on some OE wheels.

When I treated my hood, cleaned, dyed it and water proofed it it took a week, fortunately I have a garage.

When I first got my Audi Cab in June 2013 I bought it non running and had it transported to a local garage but had been unable to lower the electric hood when I first looked at the car. I asked the garage to fix the hood and ended up with egg on my face as it was a manual hood and the lid release did work.

Do Audi cabriolets only come in two colours as I think the majority are either green or blue..

I still miss my 2.3 five pot which I sold about 3 years ago now and even at nearly 20 years old it was still looking as good as new and totally rust free..

I think the only weak point on them is the heater matrix and it's a shame it never got a glass rear screen.

At least I know the old girl I sold is still being looked after as the guy I sold it to phoned me up the other day to ask whereabouts I got one of the wheels refurbished and it's garaged and only used during the summer months

I should of sold it for a few quid more as my surname is Spencer and I was thinking about putting it in my brothers name so it could have D as the initial as Coys had the Di one up for sale the same time as I sold mine lol.

It was the furthest I've driven for a car as I bought it in Lancaster and live on the south coast, I think it was about a 670 mile round trip for this one but it was well worth it.

I often wondered about that rear screen and whether the top would have folded so neatly with a glass one?

Posted

There's a YouTube video where someone has adapted their rear screen to glass and it seems to work.

I found the hidden roof compartment great at festivals as you could hide booze under there then put the roof up over the top and it was never found lol.

I have a garage but my Beetle is tucked up in there for the winter. Thinking I may well leave it until the spring to proof it properly.

I thought mine had an electric roof but then worked it out, yep felt stupid as well!! although I was pleased as I didn't have to try and fix the looms.

Renovo did a great gob on the S2000 roof but is quite expensive, cleaned it and applied the reviver which really brought the colour of the roof back and made it waterproof for the winter.

The cabrios are really great looking cars, i dont think ive ever seen one in that Blue colour either all the ones round here are green, this could be because the blue ones only hang round cement works.

I thought she had an escort?

Is that what James Hewitt or Will Carling is calling himself these days?

With the spring seemingly here and the day dry and warm I decided I would crack on with getting the Audi ready for the summer.

Despite Mrs Sills rules on not having car bits in the house, she said at the weekend if I wanted to put a seat in the dining to wet vac it I could.

Well she came home to find a whole interior sitting in there, obviously she was chuffed to fuck with it cluttering up the house.

post-17510-0-46754100-1457982476_thumb.jpg

She said when she got home you're taking the piss with that lot brilliant you're getting the car finished. (that's what I heard anyway)

With that all inside I wet vac'd the carpets and got the roof down to help it dry.

The filth that came out was both disgusting and impressive at the same time, 20 years of crap in the carpets and after the 4th load of water it was still filthy.

So tomorrows job more vaxing. Feel this could take some time.

Just been over the whole thread, its coming up really well! Dunno about you but I find this sort of thing very therapeutic (both to read about, and to do) but it only applies to cars, and not for example the house.
