New run about. I've heard tons of horror stories, but heard a few good yarns too. None sunroof model (apparently they leak like fook and mess with the wiring) and absolutely everything works. Should be easy run and £30 a year road tax!!

Clio? The 1.5 isn't supposed to be too bad, it was the 1.9 in the Laguna liked to blow up.

I quite rate the mk2.

From my experience the 1.5 engine is the troublesome one.In Ireland the main Internet site for selling stuff(Done Deal) is full of ads for 1.5 diesel Renault's with engine or fuel system faults. They have Delphi piezo injectors which are very delicate.I had to have one reconditioned once because it had been left on the bench for an hour without caps on.The reconditioner told me that if I took the caps off the rebuilt injector and walked around for 10 minutes outside that it would probably need rebuilding again. He instructed me to fit it into its hole and to have someone hold a vacuum cleaner nozzle next to it while the caps were removed and the pipe fitted.

I've had on 08 plate since new. Wife was pregnant and wanted a reliable car bigger than her clio. It is a tech run model which was the one the manufactured to use up all of the old shells before the mk3 was introduced.

Oil changed every 6k. Now on almost 120k. Only serious problem I have is window motors/wiring. 2 changed under warranty. Then the other 2 failed just out of warranty. Kicked up a stink and renault uk replaced them as a gesture of goodwill.

In giffer mode I can easily get over 70 mpg. Drops down to about 55 mpg at 80mph.

8 valve engine, so cam belt is easy. Takes me a couple of hours.

They are really sensitive to knackered batteries. A lot of electrical faults noted on forums can be cured with a new battery.

Hope this helps

Don't Nissan (small) vans have those engines too? Ours are effectively brand new and haven't always liked starting first time.

That DCI engine is in all the Nissan range. I've got it in my Puke and it's pretty pokey.

I have a dci in my Nissan but in 2.0 guise with 170bhp,apart from the dpf blocking a couple of times and needing a hot run to regen it has been faultless.40+mpg
