Funny you should say that, because I reckon a F or TF would make a great base for a 4wd electric car. Put the batteries where the engine was, and all four hubs have driveshafts...

are you thinking a motor per wheel? Tricky to synchronise but would be a great project.

CLASS. Is that the subframe that's grotty? Suppose these are 11 years old at best now... where does the time go :(

I need to own an F/TF one day. I can just imagine how cool I'd feel blezzing about in one for work.

This is the other grotty subframe. Not holed, but plenty of surface rust! Also with the sub out I can treat the rust that's starting on the floor lip.

Those subframes were made in Spennymoor you know?

That explains a lot.

A company called Tallent Engineering or something similar. I think they may have changed name now.

I blogged a recent tale regarding them for AROnline late last year and the 800 series subframe.

Don't suppose you have a link to that? Sounds interesting.

Would a 4WD Leccy car need motors synchronising? They're all pushing the same way, any more power from one will just drop the load on the others.

Same as those twin engine homebrew cars, there was a Golf with a 2.8 VR6 at one end and a 2.9 at the other. The guy reckoned he had no problems at all with one being more powerful, the car just averaged it out.

Listen man, they're not cool.

I own one, and I'm a massive twat.

Here you go.

I did research this story via 3 senior chassis engineers, so take some of the comments with a pinch of salt.

I rather like the look of them and I was listening to Dire Straits in my Rover 800 the other day.

I'm cool, though, so I can do these things.

Yeah, that looks pretty bad. Surgery time.

Here's the cause - failed SLS gasket. MLS type now fitted, engine hopefully going back in tomorrow with a new clutch.

Engine returned to subframe this afternoon, maybe tomorrow it will go back in the car. I need the ramp back to do brake pipes on a StreetKa.
