So, fear of OMG! Calais Daily Mail crisis has meant that our family holiday next week is in a nice little cottage near Dereham.

Sadly we are travelling in the modern.

Any offthe beaten track stuff of interest?

Lots! I've noticed that it's one of the premier Volvo purchasing zones in Britain.

You can also stare at RAF planes taking off from airbases.

Wuvvum's house. (only joking. He probably doesn't want tourists poking around his shite collection!)

Caister Castle car museum worth a look. Bit of a funny bloke regarding photos etc but nonetheless worth a look as there is some good old shite in there. Just over the border in Lowestoft is the East Anglia Transport museum, mostly trolley bus stuff but good in a Crich village type of way. North Walsham has a bike museum but I have never been to that one. North Norfolk railway at Holt sometimes has events at this time of year but the trains run pretty much daily until October I think.

Find out where the hell wuvvum finds all those interesting cars like Renault 6s.

There was a time when every old Renault for sale in the ROC magazine seemed to be in Norfolk. If things haven't changed too much then you could just spend a day poking round peoples' drives and rickety old garages looking for chod.

Trigger is the man in the know of all things autoshitey in East Angular.

I do know there's car shows most weekends round here, have a look here http://www.jonniejumble.co.uk/regions/east_england.shtml. and if you fancy a trek just out of Norfolk into Lincolnshire one day there's  http://www.bubblecarmuseum.co.uk/.

I seen a big scrapyard somwhere near Norwich on the A47  , looked like somebody had started building a Renault version of the Cadillac ranch .

I couldn't go and look as i was towing

Yo, probably too late but we went to Holland via the tunnel last week, no issues although there was a 30 min delay on the way out.

Didn't see any DAILYMAILKAOS swarms of marauding migrants, just a few sad looking chaps sleeping rough in a supermarket car park in Calais.

See, what did I say? Someone's just gathered them all in one place now by the sound of it.

Anglia car auctions :-)

I haven't been to one of their regular auctions for many years, but the last time I did there was 3 decent cars and 50 scrappers.

NO MORE NUDEYS!!???

No mate, they got fed up with all the doggers so banned all nudeys.

+2 on Caster castle, the museum is a MUST do, you can take photos now and the collection is very good.

What day are you going? There's a big car show on at Stonham barns this Sunday but it's a bit of a drive down from Dereham although there's shops and a owl sanctuary for the rest of the family there to see.

The real question...

thx for that one. My missus just turned her nose up though!

Trig says there's shops, an owl sanctuary and a funfair there too, to keep the family entertained.

Arriving Friday. I like the idea of this car show, but my other half already negative as it's 50 miles away.

If you want to see a few rare hand built bodies then Sandringham castle has a display of the various cars that the estate has used over the years.

When I went there then the Delorian owners club was having a day out there at the some time, which was weird but nice to have a look at.

Holkham hall is open every day, pay for parking and you can can wander round the outside of the hall, gardens, bygones museum (a few nice old traction engines) and it also includes free use of the kids woodland play area and there's about 1000 deer wandering about the place too.

As a Norfolk shiteist then everything has pretty much been mentioned. Another +1 for the Caister Museum. Excellent day out and has got the first Fiesta off the production line there.

Also mentioned was the Flixton aviation museum (which is literally spitting distance from GG towers) - the pub on the side of the museum is also worth going to.

Beach wise, Mundesley is a family favourite of ours - nice and quiet without the chavviness of Yarmouth and Hemsby. Cromer and Sheringham are nice to visit as well.
