Cheap oil in Halfords again everyone

Just having a trawl through the orangey site and noticed they have another sale on their own brand oils - all of which are made by Comma anyway.

Some good bargs there - their 5w30 and 5w40 synths are selling for £12 for 4 litres, as is their 10w40 semi synth for those of us whose cars prefer some dinosaur bits in their lubricant

So that's my Saturday sorted!

I was just looking for oil last night and frazzled my brain, how important is the API and ACEA numbers? I couldn't find an oil to match

God knows. I just look for the vw spec for mine (502/505) or the Fiat S2 for Mrs P's 500.

Comma have a good product finder on their site, as do a few other places. What have you got?

Well done for letting us know, just reserved mine for the Volvo and another 4 litres for the sister's i10 as it's nearly due and she's on a mega-tight budget.  With an oil and air filter that'll be a basic service for £25!

Fiat just quoted me 200 quid for the third service for Mrs P's car. Basically it's an oil and filter change "oh but we do a 34 point check on the vehicle too".

Considering I can do it in 30 minutes for £50 in parts, I won't worry about your report which says things like "door hinge dry, lubricated with correct specialist grease -£8.16"

So Halfords just got that cost down a tad..

Will have a looksie on the comma site.

I have misterbishi lancer with the 16valve vag engine, book says 505/506/507 then loads of other numbers just to confuse the fook out of me.

Home Bargains sells 4.5 litres of semi-synthetic 10W40 for £9.99, fine for most engines in shiter's territory.

That is super cheap - Wilco direct do their own brand stuff at silly prices too so also worth a look.

Hopefully if you put your plate in it should come up with a recommendation. Otherwise Opie Oils is really good but not cheap...

ECP is as good as the Halfords offer. I paid £13 for 5L of 10w40 from there last week and only walked in from the street (no obvious offers etc). I always find the 4L bottles a bit small for old fashioned stuff!

just looked on carparts4less and it recommends shell helix ultra and with the discount comes in at £27.74 not bad but a quick Ebay surf shows the same company selling the same oil for 75p cheaper strange discount code that.

Halfrauds didn't recognise my reg number but did come up with non discounted oil for my car shitsticks

Thanks for the heads up, I've just ordered some 5W40 for Mrs.F's daily !

Another good source of cheap oil is Tesco's - they often have Castrol GTX in 10W40 and 15W40 flavours for £3/litre. I've been running all my moderns* on this stuff for years !

I grabbed a couple of those at the weekend for the X. makes for an oil change under £15

Does unopened oil go off? I'm not talking waiting 20 years to use it but 12 months? 2 years? any idea?

I thought Halfords' oil was Millers.

I don't think sealed oil goes off in that sort of timescale.

Halfords oil is Comma - if you download the Halfords data sheets it states Comma as manufacturer.

It is almost certainly the same as their regular stuff, i can't see them producing a special line of Halfords only oils. Comma also used to (might still) blend Mobil 1 here in the UK so wouldn't be surprised if a certain amount of technology transfer found its way across the factory floor......
