All zis for chust drei hundert of your Britischer pounds?  Top Bomben auf England!

Achtung Liebfraumilch!

I had one exactly the same as that!

Why is the passenger wing mirror smaller?

Posted

It's not smaller, it has a different format. So that you can see the curb you ruin your alloys with, when you back up.

My condolences. Willkommen to meins world:

It's all fun und games from here mein herr!

Despite all the heartache, I still love the bloody thing, and I WILL get it to the way I want it.

Oh, and I bought mine for £50 less than yours! :D

M111 four pot - best engine they ever made.

Not true.

This is:

my granddad flew Spitfires during WW2, he wasn't BoB as he was in Malta & N.Africa.

I once saw him (in his 90's) start and argument in the local British Legion, by saying that the only reason that the RAF won the Battle of Britain was because the best fighter plane in the world could only spend 5 minutes over London before heading back to occupied France for refuelling.

Kein lederhosen!

That looks deliciously soiled inside. Bet it smells exactly like it looks.

Posted

Gewaltig! Top bombing mate; we'll see you over London soon, no doubt.

Danke mein damen und herren for zee comments, it is rather clean inside and does not smell of wet dog, urine, bratwurst or saurkraut. Steering wheel is a bit sticky but a good scrub should sort that out. It was cheap I believe because a slight misfire and ABS light on, both have since disappeared, possibly because the battery was flat and needed booster pack to start it, which was on first turn of the key. Possible low voltage causing these problems ? Seems too good to be true, mind you the pic from Lord Stirling scared the sheise into my lederhosen ! Thats all for now

Well the panzerwagen passed its MoT last Tuesday, just a bit of welding on exhaust and reset the headlamp heights, bloke charged me £20.00, so happy days. Took me to work all week without any fuss, really comfy to ride in. Think its poverty spec, with cloth trim, no glove box ?? no alloys, but I loves it !!

no glove box ??

Right, I've tried to reply to this several times on my PC and it just simply gives up.

Mine also doesn't have a glovebox in the usual place but it does have a centre-mounted lockable glovebox which is an alternative to the usual glovebox if the SRS airbag option was ticked when new. Yours has this glovebox too mounted under the armrest behind the window switches.

Does yours have the soft-closing tailgate option? Mine does and it works! Simply place the open tailgate onto the lock then light push the tailgate. A horrible little whirring sound will start and the tailgate will close itself shut. Du_Gong likes doing an impression of it.

You really must bring this down to one of the Cannock meets so me, you and Chaseracer can have a MERCEDES FACE-OFF. Actually, yours fits between mine and Chaseracers, yours is the same colour and wheel-trims and Chasesracers but the body option of mine.

Glove box disappeared to make room for passenger air bag.

Abs light is generally ovp relay -if it stays off it could just be the battery though as you say.

Passenger side mirror is that shape as that is what is needed from the driver's seat to see the most area of the side of the car. Ergonomics!

Well I am pleased its not got a glovebox, because I have been pressing various bits of trim in case there was a secret button !! lol. I am a carpenter and use it every day to take my tools to work, much more fun than a van ! kick down is a bit iffy and pedal/cable a bit stiff, so have ordered a new cable £ 21.00 from main dealer, as well as some spark plugs @ £ 2.60 + vat, cheap or what ? Quite surprised dealer were not at all stuffy about the old girl and reckon most parts are still available ?? Where can I find this ovp relay gizmo ? Cheers, Bill.

It is a very large ( 6cm x 2cm x2 cm) silver thing, probably under a black plastic jacket with its own embedded fuse. It will be behind the battery, probably bolted directly to the bulkhead. Mine was £80 ish but Mercedes dealer had it the same afternoon. It's not really a relay, more a complex electronic switching device.

Ovp stands for over voltage protection.

If you find it you can get the part number off it ( they are nearly all model specific) and perhaps do a search on eBay, euromercstore, and the dealer .

My local dealer, which is ascot, genuinely seem to like mine- I've never spent a penny on the workshop side mind.

Ive decided not to use kick down on mine- it's simply not needed with the straight 6. 24v and more than likely to propel you into the car in front at 110mph. Putting it in S and keeping the foot hard down though is hilarious- it's almost two stage, brisk up to about 4000rpm, then astronomical to 6500.

Thanks for that richardmorris, in contrast my local Peugeot dealer were most unhelpful when I was after bits for the 1998 v6 Coupe, was told we dont cater for the older models ??

Whilst you're poking about finding the OVP, the ECU is bolted to the same frame behind the battery, it's chuffin busy back there...have a poke nose at the ECU and its connections.

On one of mine some fuckwit had cut into the outer cabling sheath to wire in some accessory or other, yes a genuine MB workshop bodge as the car had the most comprehensive and scandalously expensive FSH i've ever seen (and the car had £19k's worth of OE extras believe it or not, salesman must have had trouser tent for a week), and water had got in past the very inadequate plastic cover you'll be equally disgusted at, and corroded one of the two multi connectors away on the ECU itself.

Take care of that ECU, they are gold dust and if you have the little green/red lights on the drivers door and boot lock that work with the plipper, then its highly likely the ECU is coded to your car only at the factory and one from a scrapper will not work...circa £1500 for a new one for a 6 pot.

I could write a book on getting 124 ECU's fixed in the world of conmen and shysters that infest that game, there are good companies out there though but you have to be careful, i nearly got turned well over.

Already found ecu, looked expensive but OK, so gave it a splash of WD 40 !

Big Mercedes estates are the future.

Mine is the first car I've had for years where I'm thinking of keeping it for another year until I can afford an E55 AMG estate to replace it with.
