Delivery/Collection - CtP delivery service raffle special

I had a text from my Dad earlier, apparently the engine has let go on his BMW 316i compact (you can't choose your familly) and is destined for a new life as part of an MG3/paper clips/etc. Do I have a car he can borrow?

Perfect thinks I, the ex-Moog Saab doesn't have a purpose in the fleet and is taxed and MOTed. It is a manual however and my Dad seems to have a phobia of all automatic cars going back long before I was even a glint in his eye. So new plan, swap the Saab for anything manual with a bit of MoT to get him out of this hole.

So what do you get? A beautiful Saab 900 Cabriolet 2.5 litre V6 in a burgandy shade, never knowingly owned by A COMPANY DIRECTOR!!!!!!!! but did at one stage have the private plate J900 SKY (not included as it went off the car years ago).

I bought it from the Moog back in January when it was missing it's rear screeen after it was smashed, this was replaced by one from eBay (and getting that back on the train from Bristol to March via Birmingham was an experence) and it hasn't missed a beat since then but really hasn't been used much.

Good points

Drives well, quite quick

Starts well even if left for 3 weeks

Hood works properly

Black Leather Interior

Good FM/MW/LW radio with tape and 6 CD multichanger

Stainless Steel Exhaust

MoT until 31st July

Bad points

MoT until 31st July, no reason know why it wouldn't pass another, I was waiting until the month before it ran out to stick it in again

I dented the wing and broke the Driver's door check strap in an Austin 1100 welding fire rescue as the car was in reverse not park and drove (slowly) into out LDV with the door open

One line of the display screen sometimes doesn't work

Driver's side front tyre leaks a bit, needs a top up every 3/4 days

Will consider anything manual, distance not a problem. Car is located in Upwell Norfolk

Money considered, dog not included, pictures to follow.

(The irony in having 19 cars none of which I can lend to him is not lost on me)

Just to try and help the sale, as the Moog bought it off me.

Its also got the fixings for a Saab wind deflector. Just slots in the holes in the rear side panels and then slots under the headrests. Can be purchased quite cheaply off e-bay and makes a massive difference to the front passengers. We'll just gloss over the fact that you cant use the rear seats when its fitted unless you are a dwarf :-D .

Has Air con, which weirdley does make a difference, but mainly in the winter re the windows steaming up.

As mentioned it has a really good stereo, especially if the subwoofer is still under the front passenger seat. (But I cant remember if I removed that)

If only I had a manual car to swap. Just out of curioisity how did you know re J900SKY, as I forgot about that.

Good Luck with the Sale

Manual Vectra, 2.2 petrol, 52 plated, MoT September?

Posted

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the bump, yes the subwoofer is still there (I guess that is the big box under the passenger seat).

J900 SKY was found in the paperwork, along with H11 PSJ, DJZ 9796 and  M955 RTV.

A surprisingly small amount of cash could also secure it (go on, go on, go on)

Turn the bass up on the Stereo. Trust me the Passenger will know its there.

Dont as I could be tempted. Where abouts are you.

Does it drive, sez he.... this is my daily!  It therefore starts every morning at 6am after a night on the street.  Not only that, but if you come for it in the next week or so you'll get most of a tank of unleaded as I just filled it up this morning!  I've even washed it today (for the first time).  It actually drives very nicely, got plenty of power, no extraneous noises, nice tyres on, radio/CD works; however I haven't found a way to open the back doors, so if carrying rear passengers is important that will want looking at.  They unlock, or at least the button pops up, but I haven't been able to make either one open, from inside or out.  The hatchback opens fine, so just fold the seat down and use it as a van.

Running Toledo with TR7 engine. Just needs paint.

Swappage. Go on, it's BL. Just needs lights refitting for MOT oh, and paint.

Such a nice car that.  I'm sure whoever takes it will smile every day they punt it.

Top down and a V6 shouting through a stainless steel pipe?   Got to be worth all of the ask by itself.

Pencilled in for the Vectra swap, details to follow.

Autoshite: This place is at least as good as it always was.

Excellent result.

Missus Moog loved this car. No doubt it might be back in the fold at some point.

Entirely possible!  As proven, I get bored with cars very quickly.  Having said that, I just showed MrsR the pics above, and she likes it...

How could she not?!

Its one of those rare cars that appeal to womens and mens equally.

Well swapped.

Both cars are staying in the Autoshite family.  How can this be anything less than win/win?  Oh... of course I could win a diesel Peugeot, then what am I supposed to do????

So tomorrow the Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaab will leave the fleet going up to Barrow. Took it to the station for the last day of roof down action and to get petrol for tomrrow.

Forgot to reset the trip at the station but did it on the way home. Then went out to pick up the Green Allegro from it's MoT

Only failed on a steering rack gatier and a wiper blade so that is a result.

Once home washed the Saab, T-Cut most of the boot lid which is a little scruffy and polished the whole car. Looks ok to me

Hopefully it will make the 283 miles tomorrow via a tyre pick up from chaseracer en route.

Fingers crossed, Mrs the Princess and Jack the dog are coming and we are making a weekend of it so hopefully it will be fun.

It was very nice to meet you and Jenny and Jack the dog - and thanks for the spin in the FloppyTop  :)

(The Merc seems to have lost 1100cc and two cylinders...!)  :D

Seconded!  Very nice people, and chaseracer, many thanks for meeting them with the tyre for me.  We are actually doing the handover in the morning, so I'll start a whole new thread tomorrow night.

Thanks guys, very nice to meet you both. Quite glad I didn't drive the Mercedes (it did look nice) if mere being near it can cause it to break.

Eddy, thanks for the tips, Jack enjoyed his game of squeeky ball on the beach followed by a Frankie and Benny's by the shipyard.

Swap in the morning will be fun.

Indeed it was!  Readallabahtit, extry, extry... new thread looms, with pics.

I hope Craig and his party made it home ok.  I'm a bit worried that we haven't seen any postings since he and I drove away from each other....
