Coventry folk-Pew Goat dealer in 90's?

Being a complete sad act I'm wanting some original dealer plates made for my 1998 106 GTI. I know nothing of the little chav chariots history but seeing as the reg is R***SHP I assume using the area codes of plates this means it came from Coventry (HP=Coventry authority).

Now the current dealer is Robins & Day but does anyone local remember who the Peugeot dealer was in the late 90's (I assume there was only 1 dealer?!?!?).

All help gratefully received and if not, then this place ain't what it used to be etc.....

Oh gawd. I used to drive past a Peugeot dealer in Cov every day at one point. Naturally, I've no idea.

Well as its a coventry reg, you could go down the route of a local dealer, or have it plated like it was one of the peugeot press fleet (unsure in that instance what the subscript would read but wont be to hard to figure out) If you can get an image from a period road test and E mail DMB graphics im sure they would oblige.

Erm, if it's Cov registered, it may never have passed through a dealer. Loads of cars were registered new by the factory either as employee lease plan cars or  also a large pool of demonstrator vehicles  / press cars. These cars have Peugeot Talbot where the dealer name would be.

Yeah DMB have done plates for me before so would definately get them to make them up. Just need the local dealer then find a Peugeot that still has it's original plates on to see what the design was....god im boring!

I suppose sending off to DVLA for previous owners would help?

Not all that clear, but these are 2 of the press fleet from the period, VC and DU being coventry (and often seen on factory jags and landrovers too)

Both 106s funnily enough. They seem to have 'peugeot' under the reg number from what I can make out,

Hmmm, currently going through completed listings on ebay for "1998 Peugeot" and looking for HP reg numbers.

What he said, I will have a think later on but if memory serves there more than one dealership too.

Robins & Day is (or was...?) wholly-owned by Pujo anyway.

Back in the early 2000s, the Peugeot dealers in Holbrooks, Coventry was Darwin motors. The biggest one though was the one at the bottom of Kenpas highway which is now Robins and Day but used to be a different name. I used to drag breakdowns in there all the time for the RAC...I'll see if I can find any old photos or paperwork.

Actually, thinking back, I'm fairly certain it was Phoenix Peugeot down there, certainly at the back end of the '90s anyway. The guy to ask for definite though would be Timsons Peugeot specialists in Nuneaton. He's an independent who's been around the trade for donkeys years in those parts. If you google him and give him a bell, I'm sure he'd be able to help you out...

I had a RDU-registered 206 GTi which had come from the Peugeot/Talbot management fleet when it was new. Presumed it had the plates which said 'Peugeot' on the bottom when it was new.

My grandad had a 306 from an Avalon but not sure if that was in Cov

The garage where Robins and Day now is on the A45 used to be Henley's a few years ago.

City Garage at Spon St./Lwr. Hollyhead Road corner in the city centre was Talbot in the early 80's, my dads company Solara came from there!

But I think during the 90's the Pug dealer was in the Holbrooks area, Avalon as alredy mentioned? There was also Arbury at Nuneaton, probably also a Cov reg. number cars coming from there.

Every other car round here was a Pug in the 90's, as every other person worked there. In the 80's, it was the same for BL.

Well, turns out this old heap was registered at Robins & Day, Holbrooks, Coventry!

I've had a look at it online and seen it's now Darwins. Mission now is to find a picture of the dealer as it was in 1998 and also to see how the number plates used to look!

Any help appreciated :)

As it was a couple of years back but too modern looking for '98!

Look on Facearse  for Pukar Designs. They do old style plates. Alternatively, Showplates Direct off interwebb.

If you apply to DVLA for previous owner info you'll likely get the original document the dealer filled in to register it , costs a fiver

Send off a V888 and a £5 to the DVLA and you'll get back paperwork which will tell you the dealer who registered the car new, also you'll get back everything else they have on file for the car, which will be handy if you have zero history for it and also if you are "sad" enough to want original dealer plates then all that sort of shizz will probably interest you too.

I've done the above V888 guys, got all the info today hence knowing where the car was first registered.
