How much for a 13 year old Honda?

That model Civic, like similarly aged Corollas are the cockroach of car world, when they nuke the effin world the handful of survivors will be driving round in Civics and Corollas.

My daughter's on her second 2 litre S type facelift model, they're unbreakeable, she thrashes the living bloody daylights out of it, runs it low on oil then when she comes to see me she knows i'll dip the oil so she'll sling far too much in the sod...why do daughters think we're dumb?...yet the bloody thing loves the thrashing.

OK, that ones overpriced a bit, but they have such a well deserved reputation...as do many Hondas.

A neighbour of Ma and Pa Sporty recently wrote hos 54reg Civic off putting it in the garage. (Don't ask) He got paid out £2500 and that was their first offer.

Obviously there's a book somewhere that values these hints generously.!

Yes it's overpriced, anybody knows that.

It's gone today, makes me wonder if they've shifted it to another branch of EMG to try and punt it on to some mug. No wonder EMG lost the Ford franchise

I looked at one of these before I bought the C4 it was Exclusive with full leather, but still horrible. I couldn't live with one.

Not enough dashboard rattles for you? Or did you find the lack of electrical faults boring?

To be fair , some of those civics aren't a brilliant drive . Most issues are caused by a poorly electronic pas rack and a stiff throttle cable . These two things make them feel terrible to drive

These were the first of the Civics to have less than stellar build quality, and if you look around closely there aren't many really nice ones left. My uncle had one..lots of interior rattling in his 5 door...and it's engine liked to drink quite a bit of oil too. Wasn't a patch on his previous 98 Accord but very roomy for its size.

Ive sampled these from both extremes of the range- A giffermatic 1.6 se 'executive'  and a Type R

The giffermatic one was a very early japan built one, apart from a crap stereo it was faultless if dull, had it for 5 years and was treated badly but never broke. The type R was ordered by me new (how Ive changed) and was fun but oddly enough the giffermatic was the faster car on a long jopurney as it was less tiring to drive or be driven in, and a less conspicuous way to keep a good average speed up.

I like these, but don't buy a cheap Type-R. OMG engine failure at about 100k. 4 pots should never rev to 8,000 RPM.

The prices of used cars at dealers seems to have gone astronomical in the past year or so. There seems to be a thinking of "cars last forever nowadays", which of course we all know they don't! I probably paid a bit over the odds for my 9 year old Kia, but it was 1 owner from new and serviced every 5k - 9 services in 45k miles! The book is almost full already.

I think these Civics look pretty good on the outside, but the dash is a bit "what were they thinking?". No hump under the middle rear seat really makes a difference for your feet. Not driven one but my friend's granny had an SE exec and it seemed nice enough, didn't feel as high quality inside as my brother's Rover 400 shape SE Exec.

I've had 3 of them over the years and they have all been reliable to a fault, 1.4 and 1.6 were dull but dependable mind, the Type S was a great laugh though great mix between hoonablity and practicality.

They certainly feel better put together than the ltwo latest versions of the civic I've tried which just felt tinny in comparison, though I'd agree that pretty much that they don't feel as well built as late 90s Accords. Cant remember any problems with noisy trim with any of the civic or Hondas in general.

You see plenty of high mileage H22, K20 and F20C engines with plus 100k on them, if the K20 in a Type R is failing at 100k it's generally because they have the arse ragged out of them by people who dont look after them not a fault of the engineering, they do encourage you to rev the tits off em though.

This is true. I always preferred the Type-S 2.0.

I quite like this shape Honda. My sister has an 05 plate diesel, which she bought at a year old in 2006. 9 years later and she still highly rates it. She has thought about selling it over recent years as it's 'needed work' - a clutch in 2013 and a full brake overhaul for its MOT this year. I've talked her out of it both times as it's never let her down, is cheap to run and and the repairs have never resulted in a FTP - it's been preventative maintenance as things have been on their way out.

She's considering replacing in the new year with a Nissan Juke. I feel she would be disappointed.

No way is that one advertised worth 3k though.

They are a very very reliable car in general . The main issue they have is brakes seizing ( Lucas quality ) . The 2.0 I vtec type s and r do drink oil from new and many get run low which usually brings up a vtec fault first as there isn't enough left to open the solenoid. Timing chains suffer as a result . But I've seen many over 200k with not much more than maintainance .

The 2.0 in the R is not the same lump as the one in the S I don't think. The S was a version of the unit from the CRV I seem to remember from when I had a Type S, whereas the one in the R was a bit more mental.

Same basic I vtec motor but type s is 160 bhp and r is 200 . Heads etc are different obv
