One the one hand I'm all for nice clean air to breathe but on the other I like to have the right to drive a smelly old diesel.

I think they will increase the tax on new diesels and also ban older diesels from cities eventually.

As I often remark to those around me who still listen....I am glad I am nearly dead. I don't mean that in a horrible or negative way...Just that I have had the best 60 years this planet can give me, its only going to get fucking worse and worse and worse with each coming decade. By which time - Ah'll be ooot....

People are ignoring the elephant in the room, the problem is big cities, just ban them. They're a bloody waste of time anyway, nowhere to park and everyone's so rude.

Jesus, tell me about it. Ive gone and developed a DVT and had to go to the hospital today to have a lady press on my crotch with some warm jelly. 30 minutes it took me to park. Why? Because instead of several smaller hospitals dotted over a wider area we now have one big super dooper hospital covering from just south of Lancaster to Wigan.

France is turning against the diesel. The stupid thing was that they decides CO2 was the big evil and fucked everything up.

Anyway, I believe diesel is for vans, lorries, 4x4s, taxis and those old Mercedes. All current diesels should be allowed to become shite

Eurotwats pissed me off when they tried to ban Cheese and Onion Crisps. Walkers.

just be pleased that you managed to get parked, did you get bumraped for the privilege?

£3, I was there most of the day having my orifices probed so seems value for money.

Already had to sell my perfectly running and in excellent condition 1993 VW T4, that I spent years modifying to how I wanted it because of Londons Low Emmision Zone (LEZ) charging me £100 PLUS £10 congestion charge everytime I drove it to London.

They also want to ban pre-2007 motorcycles from London in 2020 because of emissions. Strange when emissions are not tested on motorbikes. There are many 13 year old bikes commuting into London daily now (2 of mine are 18 and 16 and are ridden in frequently). I see many 80's and 90's bikes riding into London along Death Row (aka the A13).

This is because the wealthy don't want you littering up the streets of their London with your old tat. I hate London with a passion. The whole system there is geared to fleece you of your money. You pay up or stay away, either way they win,I choose the latter.

Yep, i hate the bloody London place too, the only time i ever go there is when i'm paid to, it's got nothing going for it bar the quickest route out.

Ha ha ha , been telling people for years that modern diesels are pants . I'm ok with my petrol punto , Saab , kit car , starlet and now a petrol Landy . Just that vans diesel but I'm not too sad about that .

Sadly London is where I have to work, with a 120 mile a day commute too (been doing it since 1986). Parking is free but the office is just 300 yards into the congestion charge zone, I hate public transport, so bikes are the only way to go, saving money and time. Luckily I love riding so no real hassle.

Banning stuff older than a certain age type shenanegins always seems heavy handed to me. As we know all too well 'natural selection' does its job and older stuff makes an ever diminishing proportion of the traffic. Seems to make more sense to incentivise manufacturers and new car buyers to select what is considered a more 'appropiate' vehicle rather than clobber people further down the vehicle ownership chain.

How do they compensate Mother Nature with all the money they tax us with?

They'll be banning farting next.

It's Brussels they're probably getting the documentation together as we speak.

Never owned a diesel, but would sue the fucking Government for telling us to chuck our chod, and buy a healthy diesel a few years ago, Wank tards.

And yes London /Birmingham etc - fucking hate them, been to London once many moons ago, fucking arrogant cock turds they are...

Well, if the MEPs people voted for (like Farage) actually attended meetings rather than just pissing about claiming shit loads of expenses, perhaps Brussels would be in a better state.

Couldn't really give a monkey's about diesels getting banned from cities. To be honest, cars should have been banned from cities aeons ago. They don't seem to work there very well. As long as I can live in the middle of nowhere and still run old oil-burning tat, then I'll be happy. Ish.

ah yes the ever present Birmingham / Black Country divide..... To most people on here if they look at Walsall on a map, YOU live in Birmingham :)

I know the truth.....

This. The last time I actually drove into central London was about 15 years ago (out of choice, yes, I'm an arrogant f**kin cocktard c**t or whatever makes you feel better about yourself) and I agree that the only vehicles there or in any major city should be taxis, buses and delivery trucks. I sympathise with anyone who has to commute in from a location that isn't easily linked by public transport, but if LEZs are extended I imagine there'll be far more 'park & ride' facilities being developed to compensate.

Speaking (writing) as an HGV driver but also an owner of a ZX diesel, ZX turbo Diesel. AX diesel. 106 diesel, Renner diesel, FELICIA PETROL, CZ two stroke ( etc.) I agree with the principle of  "get rid of stinking diesel pollution ".

I know there's a lot of diesel stuff about but in the grand scheme what will banning them actually do? Will it stop China and the rest of the "developing word" doing what they want and not giving a shit?

The thing is though, this particular episode of hand-wringing isn't about fluffy cuddly polar bears but about local air quality in that there London, so what China may or may not do won't have much effect in this instance.
