Mazda MX-3 V6 - £375 - Peterborough

Time I move my Mazda MX-3 V6 on.

GOOD BITS:

88k on the clock

Old enough to go on a classic insurance policy

Brakes, clutch and gearbox in decent working order.

Engine strong and bellowy.

Interior complete and unmarked bar a slightly frayed driver's seat and shiny gear knob.

JVC CD player fitted.

GT Champiro tyres all round with decent tread.

No warning lights on dashboard.

Large boot with folding rear bench.

Decent rear space for kids (although adults will hit their head on the tailgate if they're much over 5ft 8).

V5 in my name (many previous owners)

Full years' test

Get you home tax if you decide to collect.

It's a riot to drive - how many sub-£400 cars do you know that can rev to 7000rpm without issue? Being a tiny V6, it sounds glorious, too. Performance is similar to a MkII Golf GTI 8v. It has never let me down and has ferried me all over the country.

BAD BITS:

Paint is [very] poor. Some of it might come back with a rotary mop but it's never gonna be concours.

Dents and scrapes (see pictures)

Oil leak from rocker gaskets.

Blowing exhaust clamp.

I'm after £375 although shiter's discount will probably apply. I can also deliver it for the cost of fuel and a train ticket back to Peebo.

It would make an interesting shite hack or a good basis for a rough, ready and unusual track car.

Oooo same colour as my rusting away Felicia so I'd not need to buy any more touch up paint.

Do like - I enjoyed my brief flirtation with a 323F from the same era and this would be highly tempting if I had some space.

Kylie Minogue had one of these.

You should be so lucky, lukcy lucky lucky...............

It's probably worth mentioning that most classic insurers will take an MX-3 on if the cost of insurance is stuffing you.

Well done Jon, wait till I've shaken on something much less inspiring, cheers mate.

No seriously, I've been following this in CCB, GLWTS.  It should fly away at that price.

Indeed, people have been whinging about it.

You don't seriously fancy a characterless Vectra?  Or were you thinking Mercury?

The want level is considerably higher than current income. I've been longing for one of these for many years. Oh well. Serves me right for being a penniless writer.

Try Lancaster insurance as I put my second car on classic yesterday as I couldn't get an answer from Peter Best and Adrian Flux wanted £70 more to insure my car ( although I did get them down to only £20 more in the end) after being told I won't get it cheaper anywhere.

Also I got lots of extras chucked in such as key insurance and windscreen cover and European insurance and the excess was only £100 compared to the £250 that Flux wanted.

I like this little car. I don't really think there's a cheaper way to get into something this nippy. From the breif ride I had in it, it seemed to grip well and still pulled very well even when 3 up.

And I love how Mazda used a 1.8 V6, for no other reason than because Mazda.

SOLD!

Believe me, this is not the last V6 Mazda I'll own.

Cheers MX-3, you were a top laugh and got me out of some tight spots.

Not suprised this didnt hang around, despite attempting a fleet reduction I'd convinced myself for the money there can't be a more fun, characterful motor to whizz about in.

Wonder if the buyer is an AS regular?

If he had cash and paid the asking price - 78% unlikely.
