They don't need a Carlton do they? Haha

It really depends if you can take a day off work at short notice.

Your cars are now worth loads more. "As seen in BBC drama" on car and classic must add more ££££ than paper KGF mats

I insured the rover today so thought I'd stick it on the ramp for a look, I ended up welding the exhaust then had a prod at the wheel arch and had to weld that too.. fcc6092c8ae0789ce2bfac0e06e37ef3.jpg

Some grey paint and it will be ok.

I was planning on repairing it with genuine panels at some point but didn't imagine there would be a gaping hole in it after touching it lightly around the crusty bits so I thought I'd be as well patching it up for the time being.

It looks like it might need a patch at the front wing on that side too, the other side looks fine.

I hadn't actually planned on welding it today, it just kinda happened. The exhaust is almost silent so I reckon it will pass the mot in December.

I disconnected the battery while welding.

Does anyone know what the radio code is?

With that car, probably half the forum if they can remember.

Don't suppose the filmers would be interested in a 305 van ?

They didn't want a 305 estate, the cars they want next are 2 white cars for police cars, a boy racer car and a mini.

6501 for future reference.

I'm made up to see it getting some metalwork done, you may notice the filler in the wing has a sparkle to it, the result of some last minute bodgery at 5:30 am in minus 6 to get it through the last MOT, copper grease on a rear caliper then filling the slightly jagged wing. Did you find the radio code?

Edit :You found it then  :-D

I covered 300 miles in this today.

To have a look at how easy it is to convert it into a Concerto.

I would need the lights, indicators, wings, bumpers, bonnet and grille. I'm not sure if I can really be bothered!

Think Mr Vulg looked into doing it as well. Hoping your getting on well with it and the welder doesn't have too much work to do

I can't see why you'd bother tbh.

Exactly my point, they look almost the same & it's a lot of work for no major change.

Sometimes the reason to do things is there's no real reason to do it.

Your R8 has listed car status. Major changes such as turning it Japanese would need to be run past Autoshite Heritage Trust. I'd imagine it would be in the paperwork somewhere.

If you're not gonna do it, can you get me one of the under-light trims pls?  Think it's passenger side I need.  They unbolt.  I could do with the bit of metal that matches along the bottom of the tailgate too, but that's too much work to ask you to do.  Can't get the time free to get all the way up there to DIY, or I would.

If I'm not going to do it, I will try and get you all of the parts you require.

So, I bought another Proton...

53k miles on the clock, runs and drives reasonably well but think there's a broken spring up front, it clunks when steering lock to lock. Rover towed it back along the road fine. It cost £250 so was a bit salty for an old scabby proton with a short mot.

There's no passenger side mirror and I was disappointed to see there's no shelf in the middle of the dash like my later proton but it's incredibly tidy and unworn inside.

Underneath is solid but the wings and valance are scabby and there's some grot in the rear arches.

Also spotted a Carina II for sale locally, I had visions of buying that but after buying the Proton this afternoon I convinced Mike/Nisfan that he needed a Carina in his life...

Towing this with the Rover didn't feel so good, it felt like there was a bit of play somewhere and a delayed reaction when cornering but I managed to take it easy and get it back to base without killing any kittens or nuns.

The Carina was bought for £100 as a non runner but after 5 minutes fettle it fired to life, I think Mike is going to change the oil tomorrow and put it into use as a WBOD.

That Proton looks like it will clean up lovely with a bit of work. Can't see the badge in the photos, but assuming it's a 1.3 as the 1.5 usually has a rev counter in GLS spec...

Posted

That's the buttery biscuit base Proton with a dealer fit tilt slide sunroof, and no rear wiper or passenger mirror, how utterly miserable, well bought Scott

Posted

Rear trailing arm bushes, perhaps?  That can make the back end feel a bit wayward and delayed responsey.  Appreciate the potential future efforts with acquiring bits of Concerto!  Please please please don't bin the tiny hubcaps on the Proton, they're ridiculous but also one of the best things ever on them.
