DodgyBastard Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Nice 924! It's not mine, the photo was taken at a meet I went to recently.
Angrydicky Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 A vote for the original colour here! It's quite a pleasant shade, especially when it isn't as flat as a witch's tit. Reminds me a lot of the Chrysler Alpine RichieG saved, DFH 191T, very similar colour and quite period.
DodgyBastard Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Boot spoiler was badly damaged so I binned it and welded up the holes before filling them. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk oldcars, Supernaut, Dirk Diggler and 1 other 4
cort1977 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Original color looks good I reckon. Those headlight wipers on the turbo make me feel strangely aroused.
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 That's it almost ready for paint, hopefully be finished tonight. Skizzer, RobT, oldcars and 5 others 8
oldcars Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Good job this, looks all flatted down ready for colour. What colour are you going for?
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 Eventually managed to pick up this zx. It drives really well so I'll get it welded and in for an mot ASAP. Lacquer Peel, privatewire, KruJoe and 6 others 9
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 Getting there... djimbob, HillmanImp, AndyW201 and 19 others 22
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 Got a couple of runs in the paint which will need sanding before applying the next coat. The paint looks better than it did with the white which is all I was really aiming for. oldcars 1

All for the grand sum of £120.I had initially bought it as an engine donor but it's far too good to break up so I'm going to weld the sills and mot it. KruJoe, Lacquer Peel, Jim Bell and 7 others 10
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 I had the carb stripped, cleaned and rebuilt and new distributor cap, rotor arm and plugs fitted. DSC_0581 by srblythe, on Flickr DSC_0578 by srblythe, on Flickr DSC_0573 by srblythe, on Flickr It appears to be running a lot better with no hesitation or stuttering so I'll be taking it out for a long Sunday drive around the lochs tomorrow. paulscavalier, Lacquer Peel, Shep Shepherd and 7 others 10
chaseracer Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 ...the Chrysler Alpine RichieG saved, DFH 191T, very similar colour and quite period. Did that come out of a hedge in Chipping Campden?
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 I think I'm going to put this up for sale. DSC_0595 by srblythe, on Flickr With all of my recent expenditure on car parts, paint and stuff I'm feeling like selling a couple of things to get some money back in the bank. As the Datsun is probably the most desirable car I have and probably the most valuable I'll sell that first. oldcars, HillmanImp and Skizzer 3
Jim Bell Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 That zx looks like a dogs balls. Guessing its a turdbodeesil? DodgyBastard 1
HMC Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Brilliant progress with the Renault, looking forward to the finished result.
DodgyBastard Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 ZX has some holes in the sill but I'll get it welded asap. The 18 is looking good now the paint is starting to dry, it needs a couple of coats and the runs sanded but hopefully I'll get it finished soon. Supernaut Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 That colour is HAWT. Proper wine red, that. Lovely.
DodgyBastard Posted March 26, 2017 Author Posted March 26, 2017 Looks ok from here! DSC_0678 by srblythe, on Flickr It's a bit patchy but I think it will look better when it dries completely... DodgyBastard Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 DSC_0656 by srblythe, on Flickr Yesterday I set off for Aberfoyle in the Carlton to test how it was running after adjusting the fuel mixture and idle speed. It seemed like there were only two settings for the carb which were to either let the car idle under 1k and hesitate when blipping the throttle or have the car idle at 1.5k and be able to pull away more smoothly. I chose the former setting and set of for a 130 mile drive. DSC_0652 by srblythe, on Flickr DSC_0658 by srblythe, on Flickr DSC_0661 by srblythe, on Flickr At higher speeds the car seemed ok but at low speeds pulling out of junctions the car would hesitate and want to stall. I got back home, frustrated with how the car was running and tried again to adjust the mixture and idle settings. Again I could only make it less hesitant by upping the idle so was getting a little bit pissed off with the thing until I remembered something about John K saying he had advanced the timing on the distributor.I had a play about with the distributor then adjusted the mixture settings accordingly and now it's idling around 1k with very little hesitation. The guy around the corner from me has a timing light so hopefully soon it'll be running even better. derskine Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I have a timing light in the unit too. DodgyBastard 1
chaseracer Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 The R18 will polish up nicely, if you're into that sort of thing... oldcars 1
oldcars Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 If you have a good depth of paint on you can wet flat it back and machine it up.
worldofceri Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 You need to frisbee those trims. DodgyBastard 1
