I think you need to have a conversation with our Will. He'll tell you all about it :)

It's getting there, got rid of that horrible yellow tint on the headlights, fitted a new thermostat and radiator and had the alternator refurbished.
Pity it still isn't charging correctly but I'm sure I'll get there if I keep throwing money at it...
So far the car has cost me
£150 - Purchase price
£90 - Alternator
£40 - Radiator
£10 - Thermostat
Overall it hasn't actually cost too much but still needs a bit more time and money spent on it to make it usable

The Brat seems mega cheap; guess the seller hadn't latched onto the scene tax that many have added as standard. The Horizon catches my eye though - is it a total rotter or just a bit of a scruff bag?

Posted

The story with the Brat is I was travelling along a country road a few moths ago and spotted a blue Brat in a field, I couldn't quite remember where it was so a few Sunday drives around the countryside later I managed to find it again. I drove into the farm, knocked the door, the farmer answered and I asked if he owned the Brat in the field?

He said he did.

I asked if he would sell it and he said no but I'd sell you the one in the barn.

I asked how much he wanted, he said to make an offer and I said is £100 any good?

He said that would be great.

I said I'd come back on a dry day to help remove it and load it up and he was happy with that.

The Horizon was offered to me by the Vehicle auction manager at Errol for £100, He said he'd keep it for me until I could come back with a trailer at some point in the future.

He said it was last on the road in August, It's been in at least 1 auction but didn't sell. It's scabby and looks worse than it is but I think it's salvageable.

If you're happy to take on anything as rusty as that FSO? pick-up then the Horizon or Subaru shouldn't be a problem!

Looks like the Horizon has looked that scruffy for yonks. This thread I found shows it at the auction and a photo further down of it in 2012, looking just the same.

Apparently it's been reregistered though, and the plates in the photo aren't the current ones for it? Someone has transferred it onto their 2012 Yaris for some reason.

Great photos of it here: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tags/tjs200v/interesting/

It's got one previous giffer owner written all over it!

Had a lovely jaunt up to Ullapool then down the coast in the 305. 750 miles later and no major issues to report apart from the exhaust middle section breaking.

That looks stunning scenery, I am definitely going to finally get up to Scotland when I retire.

Those 305 vans were very popular when I was growing up in The Highlands.

WTF is the script with the sticker bombing on The Applecross sign?

Stunning photos, and bravery points for taking the applecross pass after recent weather. I went over it last April in the hillmanimp rover 220 and ticked it off my bucket list too...post-4673-0-10756400-1455440311_thumb.jpg

That's definitely on the to-do list, I love travelling but it's easy to forget what's available on our own island sometimes!

I will have to dig some old photos out, but that picture Matthew posted looks very similar to a shot I got in Norway some years back. It's scarily similar.

Minus the Rover of course. Although I seem to recollect the Land Rover Defender 110 (vehicle of choice for the journey) makes an appearance in it.

Am i the only person that preferred this just as it was before (- stickers ofc). Is Scotland just full of old shitty cars squirreled away in barns and fields???

Get your car finding ability going and find me another applause for £100 already :D

I imagine the previous owner preferred the look of the car as it was before. My car finding ability isn't better than anybody else's, if I find any £100 Applauses I'll buy them myself.

It is a 2001 2.4 petrol auto. The owner is moving to Spain this week and needed it moved last minute, he gave me £60 to take it away and it cost me £80 to transport it. V5 needs applied for, it had a private plate which has been removed and it's back on its original plate. I checked the mot history and it usually failed on tyres and had a brake imbalance. overall it isn't too bad, a few dents and scrapes. The plan will be to get it legal, on the road and swap it for something older but you never know I might end up keeping it or giving it to my father.

Looks Fab. I have a real liking for OvLOLs

This was my last one, sold for £bugger all a couple of years back.

If the idle speed jumps up and down when warm, chances are the throttle body is knacked. Can be repaired for around £130 iirc.

Does it have a white or yellow sticker on the throttle body (not that it makes THAT much difference?

It lives! Took it for a spin. It drives well, slight brake imbalance, power steering leak. Engine is quiet, it's quite fast. I'm well impressed.
