Daihatsu Applause, holy shit! Where did you unearth that?

It's not mine, a friend brought over because he wanted a look at the Subaru. He has another quite rusty Applause he wants me to weld but I've said he'd be better going with someone capable of doing a good job like Gingernuttz.

Tell him it’s ok you have bottle of magic oil that will make sure the ‘valves’ on two strokes can cope with E10. You can supply this for only £100 extra.

I love this statement,  first part well and truly wrong and then goes on to state the obvious,  no shit Sherlock a Japanese company make engine for themselves 😂

Fuck sake man. At first I found these funny, but now I'm starting to endorse the idea of just nuking large swathes of humanity indiscriminately.

You'd probably get around a 98% success rate of wiping out mouthbreathing cretins.

1992 Daihatsu Applause 16 GXi Auto

Nice one, this is the car you'll be taking on. I sent him some photos of the work you did on the Galaxie which was really quite impressive.

Doesn't sound too bad from what he was saying but being rare panels aren't available for them.

95k miles and 11years ownership, it's been quite the car to let go of but needs must!

I'm not entirely sure what a scruffy 5 door 205 D-turbo is actually worth

Depends on condition but probably 800-1k.

I'd noticed oil leaking at quite an alarming rate from around the distributor so checked the oil and discovered it was very high on the dipstick.

I guessed it could be petrol mixing with the oil at the mechanical fuel pump so dropped the oil which smelled like petrol and removed the pump. I cleaned it all up and worked the pump a few times with my hand and could see the petrol dripping out where it's bolted onto the engine.

I've ordered a new pump so hopefully it'll solve the issue.

Ordered the wrong fuel pump for the Skoda, I was under the impression that it was a Skoda 130 engine so just ordered a replacement on eBay before I had a chance to look at what was fitted on the car and discovered the one I'd ordered only had two holes to bolt it on.

Later I searched Google images to find the same one and it turns out that it's a favorit pump. I ordered one from a Czech site so hopefully be here at the end of the week.

I refitted the old pump and changed the oil which seemed to help with the low oil pressure and oil pishing out of every seal. Obviously I'll have to change it again when the new pump arrives as well as changing the filters.

The carb doesn't have any kind of filter/airbox on it so going to look into what fits or maybe modify something, I can't imagine it's good for it when it warms up and hot unfiltered air is going straight into the carb.

In other news I've started working on the chevette again, I've refitted the original vinyl interior and painted the floors inside. Today I'm hoping to paint the wings and front end and refit the lights and mirrors and make it look more like a car again.

I was reading through the fail list and there really isn't that much still to do.

Nice!

I need to take you up on that offer to go exploring photo opportunity locations at some point. I have absolutely no idea where you went to take those photos, but they look ace.

It's not far from me at a disused quarry in inverkeithing. Go down at the weekend if you like?

Much better!

Over spray everywhere but what a difference it makes to have it all in blue and the headlights refitted.
